Respect or Lack of it!

I have just returned to playing on Skypoker after taking a break from the game totally for 18 months.  Lots of things I see shows what a great site this is, excellent variety of games at all levels, some very good players all backed by the Sky staff.

One thing that I have witnessed more and more (happened 4 times in 4 games today) is players being verbally abusive to others on the tables I have been on, I'm not taking about 'table talk', its gone further than that, of course the player has been careful not to have the abuse ***** out but it has been personally offensive.  I have only ever encountered this once live despite, prior to taking my break from the game, being an extremely active live player on the Blackpool circuit and it saddens me that these keyboard warriors mar the site.

Just disappointed and wonder whether they would be like this if they were sat playing live.

Please report this to customer care, it will be dealt with. All the decent players here want to stamp this out

Sadly I did not make a note of the usrnames of those involved,  I know it is a small minority and fully accept that decent players want it stamping out as I know Skypoker do too.

I once got it all in in middle stages of MTT with A9 and was called by a guy with AK. Of course I spiked the 9 and he was out. He stayed on table freaking for ages, calling me all names under the sun, how terrible I was to shove A9 (he was short, figured why not as I needed chips). This went on for at least 15 mins.

I made it to the final table, probably over an hour later and eventually went out in 3rd - ironically I shoved AK and was called by AA if I remember correctly. Just as the script came up to say "BigRonnieC has been awarded 3rd place etc" the villain was back from the abyss laughing at my misfortune (3rd wasn't too bad).

Some people can't grasp that while this is a leisure activity with a competitive dimension, luck plays a large role and you will lose (often) with the best hand - it's just the way things work - even a 90% favourite will lose, sometimes in strings of bad luck. It's not the person who got lucky's fault. It's not sky's fault. It just is what it is and some people can't grasp that and rage at everyone.

@ Ronnie could not agree more mate, you get your chips in and then the cards decide, in your example I WANT to be holding AK against A9 all day long.  We understand the maths of the game but as the cards land the nad rankings take over, AK, whilst a strong starting hand is only Ace high.  Wonder how there people would react if they had 2 black Kings cracked by 2 red Kings on the bubble of a live 92 player tourney.  I rolled my eyes, bemoaned MY luck, tapped the table, wished the guy good luck and left.  Moral is IT HAPPENS... end of story.

A common attitude is this one from the Ask Tikay thread:

"i have been playing on sky poker for a while now and cant help but see how many times the river hits the winning hand. now i know this does happen as i have been playing at the casino for a few years BUT this happens nearly every hand at sky. i have spoken to other players on here and they agree that this is the case. poker on sky is little more than bingo. i suspect that the randomiser on sky is geared up to pull in as much rake as they can from the cash games. i have got together with other players on here to look into taking this to the governing body to investigate sky and its misleading so called POKER site "

It's a human tendency to seek to attach a cause to everything, or to apportion blame where possible. I can understand when people throw their hands up when all is running smoothly then suddenly they lose two all-ins as an 80% favourite and suddenly they're busto. The difference is a winning player with an understanding of the game recognises that this is part of the game just as much as he understands the difference between preflop equity and postflop equity. To minimise variance and the role of luck, a good player develops situational awareness, understands and picks up on betting and calling patterns and incorporates this into his play to minimise the role of luck.

The key word is minimise. You can't eliminate chance from poker - that's why you should have a bankroll that can withstand misfortune but still grow if in the hands of a skillful player. Instead of analysing their game and opponents however, these bad players blame "fish", sky poker or anything, when, in reality, only bad play can lead to consitently bad results in the longrun.

This lack of honesty and responsibility for one's own actions then manifests itself as chat box rage and ignorant forum posts.

I was playing in a tourney the other night when one player was calling another player and saying in no uncertain terms he did not know what he was doing! It made me laugh as I knew that the player on the recieving end is a very successfull Semi-Pro and does very, very well on here! Which only goes to show the people that think they know best are only kidding themselves!

B16 welcome back to Skypoker and what a great attitude you have. Sadly the abusive chat seems to be on the increase but I suppose that is to be expected with the numbers rising. All I can say report any abuse and then they can't have a go at anyone else. We mustn't let them get away with it.

This also happens online in other games not just poker.

Be it playing pc games online, or playing your x-box or Playstation online with other players. You're constantly faced with cry babies who really can't stand losing.

The people who moan and complain about bad beats and bad luck show that they dont really understand poker.I do wonder why some people play this wonderful game if it gives them so much heartache.
