Congratulations on the promotion/running of the UKOPS. Now what can you do to improve?

edited November 2011 in Poker Chat
Firstly this is by no means a moaning post I greatly enjoyed the series be it railing team mates cashing in 1 and getting points in two others BUT there are improvements that need to be made on the site if you wish to go on and make yourself a real force to be reckoned with in UK poker, which i feel should be your goal esp with the demise of some of the main compeitors in recent months.

I'll start the ball rolling with a few observations either from my own experiences or from talking to others about the events.

1 Hand for hand play at the bubble of these events and by that I also mean hfh at each of the rises in the prize pool.

2. When your down to 2 tables hfh play until you reach 1 table. With the blinds as they are at this stage and 1 table has 3 and 1 has 4 you could be playing 20% more hands on the table of 3. At the end of the day this will actually increase the speed of play as no one has any need to run your time bar down.

3. Blind Speed was playing the deepstack ukops and the regular deepstack ME the blinds had been adjusted in the UKOPS event and although you had the chips the blinds where racing up. If your going to run a deepstack then make it a two day event. Play 4 hours 1 night then come back the next night and finish it of would be a much more enjoyable experience.

4. Antes - Lets face it its time to drag your software engineers screaming and kicking to the keyboard and get this implemented. Ok it will mean revamping a lot of the software but its done virtually everywhere else if your playing live in the SPT its there. It means that you dont have to continue raising the blinds quite so quickly which improves the game play.

5. Tournament types you have covered virtually all the options open to you IMHO plo hi lo is probably to specialised to be running a large tourney. The only other ones i would consider would be a 10 seater as most major tourney play including ukipt ept spt etc. are all done in this format and people should be pepared and a proper deepstack run over 2 days keeping the blind levels out to say 20 mins and not just doubling the blind prices up. For the smaller BR players possibly one huge £11 entry tourney again possibly running over 2 nights.

6. Prize structure - probably a thorney one and one that i'm not sure exactly where i stand. With the present prize structure it is very heavilly weighted to the top 10 which I really cannot put an argument towards the problem comes sometimes when you just clip over a certain number which triggers a further 10 spots of prizes. Take for instance the Deepstack that was played earlier this week. Entry was £110 (unless you satted in which is another consideration) If you came 11th in this event which is a reasonable achievement the payment was about £178.50 which meant a profit of £68 for grafting for best part of 5 hours. I'm open to suggestions on this I feel posssibly paying 30 in a 210 man tourney is too many. Maybe pay the twenty with the prize money raising from 20th up and then rocketing for the top 10.

7. Satellites - Generally have been well run and thought out through the series possible additions would be late on (day of the evet) sng to qualify. And the possibility of running sats with tokens to pay towards/for entry. I.e run a £10 satalite with 1:5 getting a £50 token to spend wherever they want in the series. So win 1 for he £55 event 2 for the £110 4 for the £220 and £10 for the high roller.

Thats all I can think of at the moment but i'm sure other people can add anything they think has been missed / overlooked. Once a gain this is not a criticsm but a critique of what I think you can do better at. Once again congrats on a good series and looking forward to series 2 being bigger and better.

Don't have an opinion as i did'nt play any of these events but would say its a very well written and thoughtful post.

    1. H4H is a must, i feel around bubble for money and bubble for FT anymore its will be far too slow

    2. See above all other sites dont have H4H in play for long generally just the bubble spots, definately shouldnt be every prize step because it gets ridiculous IMO

    3. Its not the blind speed its the levels, in UKOPS events it seemed to miss out a few of the new structure blind levels. These need to be a slow stucture to save it becoming a crapshoot

    4. I dont mind either way, antes are to force the play but with it being 6 handed generally it doesn't make a huge difference

    5. I think this series tournament types were spot on which is showed by them smashing all gurantees, obviously this was the first so it will be adjusted. In regards to deepstack 2 days i think that will be a bit silly not everyone can do 2 days in a row and drags it on, 1 late night isnt too bad maybe just start @ 7 or have on weekend

6.I think in general prizepools should work the same as live eg. 100 runners =10 seats, and so on top 10% get paid and it should always be weighterd towards the FT and big jumps

7.I think they done really well, enjoyed the direct ones the first week but obviously there was less overlay when they decided to do 1 in 5 etc makes business sense.

Congratulations , great week and would be interested to know the figures of ho successful this was.  i.e. how many new sign ups during the week, did any pro's come on for first time, did daily number of players increase?

suggestions for future .... not many as I think it is excellently organised and who am I do advise Sky on how to run a festival :)

    1.  Increased television coverage
    2.  Antes
    3.  Slow blinds so people feel benefit of having more chips
    4.  2 day event
    5.  Possible big team comp? bigger scale version of the forum DTD?
    6.  An £11 - £20 buy in for smaller bank rolls
    7.  satelittes for each tournament running all week.

re prize payouts, i think they should should be jumps in payouts in multiples of 6 to reflect that it is a 6max tourney

A two day on line event would be a great idea,Also slightly smaller buy ins for the reg players who cant afford over £50.

Agree with this as £50 is alot to smaller bankroll players , a FEW £20 ers would be good , and not £20 rebuys as this just escalates upto £50 ish again.

EDIT -  come to think of it how about a MINI UKOPS running 15mins after the MAIN just like they do for the nightly ME's ??

Excellent suggestion Debs,  I know Darntootin ran the FLOPS the week before but it would have been nice to have a mini festival the same week as UKOPS was running

Sats to win tournament tickets that you can use as and when you wish, rather than a ticket to a particular tournament.

Qualified 3 weeks in advance to a £110 tournament and had to unregister on the day coz I couldn't play......

50/100/200 quid tourny tickets which can even b used for all UKOPS events & primo/both rollers would be good. Would boost the numbers in the sats too.

The levels were silly.  Sky doubled the amount of chips but then doubled the levels which was ridic.

    H4H is a must.

The supersat to the high roller/main event was an excellent idea but should have continued up until the Thursday.  More sat to the high roller on its own.

Tweak the start of UKOPS so it matches to the TV coverage.

The prize payout jumpts mentioned by lolraise is excelllent, but then should be implemented throughout every tournie on the site.

No rake on rebuys full stop.  Sky stopped raking for rebuys on the 55r event but then raked the 22r event.

Don't change the normal main event guarantees/times.  A couple of times they were lowered which defeats the point of UKOPS.  UKOPS was meant to bring new people to the site so you want to entice them by having nice big guarantees on the normal day to day tournies.

Don't use an image of a bracelet next time, to avoid 100 questions of are we gonna win a bracelet.

But overall this was an excellent event and a great step forward by Sky, and I'm sure they will make it even better next time.
