Just play cash or Tournament play too?

edited November 2011 in Poker Chat
I have always played MTT and STT alot and not really bothered with the cash part...

But recently playing cash in casinos I have done very well out of it.

So recently started playing 4NL cash and again I seem to make profit everytime I play..

Is this just variance and getting lucky?

But when i win a decent amount I go and play in a tournament and take my BR back down to scary levels (ala top up time)

Should I just leave the Tournaments alone and maybe play more cash? I usually on Multi table 2 tables?

If your consistantly winnning at cash then stick to that for now. Build up a bankroll and you can then enter tournaments that don't hurt your bankroll (10% of your bankroll at most, preferably 5%).

Be prepared to have losing sessions on cash though. You can't win every time.

Sounds like tournament bank roll management might be something you need to consider.

Find the correct level , correct tables  and have the correct bankroll and you will be a profitable cash player , tournys as we know have such a massive varience to them that really only the BEST players consistently cash in them.
Yes by all means play the odd mtt here and there but mostly stick to where its easier to win money.

Think you are completely correct in this instance.... at the weekend i blown 85% of my bank roll on tournaments but luckily cashed in on my last one to get me only losing about 15% of my BR...

This is not good BR management I know and topping up is something I have done quite a bit off....

on sharkscope I do have a positive ROI but this is mainly due to a couple of decent tournament wins..

So you think having TWO BR is a good idea? one for cash, one for Tourney play?

Thanks for the advice I think I need to really sit down and sort my BR management out better... I do enjoy the MTT though :)

My balance at the moment is £38 this isnt really going to give me a "true" BR is it?

Hi thanks for the advice I am enjoying the 2p/4p tables at the moment and my BR says I am most defintely not ready to move up.... The only thing I find frustrating is getting my Aces cracked by 2 - 6 offsuit :) But im sure we have ALL been there and variance and odds will mean over the long run I will make the money..

I don't do this, but some do. What I do today is to play cash or sng's at 4% of my bankroll and mtt's at 2.5%. I play purely for recreation, but I like to make a small profit along the way.

Doing it my way I need to keep some kind of check so I know where my profitable areas are.
