Was I right to call the re-raise here?

edited November 2011 in The Poker Clinic
Got quite a bit of abuse calling the re-raise here the guy was not happy and called me a few choice words.

But I feel that the guy was a person who was "sick" of my raises and was just trying to get me off a hand so called, I also feel I gave him a chance to get away from his hand by reraising him to £3 after the flop?

Was I right in the way I played this hand or is it just bad play and I got "lucky"?

You did nothing wrong - he seems guilty of thinking his KK is unbreakable and he has spat his dummy

Not sure what your min-raise was all about pre, when there was a limper. in the end, u were prob getting the right odds on a call.

After that the hand played itself, another whinger thinking kk should win every hand ever.

I think your 3-bet on the flop could of been slightly smaller on a pretty dry board. as it happens he was never going away anyway so he must move on!!!

standard 200bb deep, altho i hate ur raise from sb of btn limper, just raise 3.5/4x standard, non of the min raising rubbish but then still call villain 3bet after btn calls, muchos implied odds

Yeh I am thinking although not 100% sure was a click mistake it is not in my make up just to min raise usually at least a 3x raise...

at NL4 your play pre-flop is ok although I think a 12p/16p bet is better for value. His play on the flop is bad. You telegraphed your hand with a big raise on such a dry flop. I would prefer to call the flop and then check raise the turn. His 1/2 pot bet looks like AK or AQ that has missed. Did you have some sort of read that he would not be able to get off his hand?

On this board I don't see what he was thinking that you had. With the 3-bet pre you aren't going to think that AJ is worth creating a 400BB pot over so the only thing you can do this with is a set.

In answer to your question you did nothing wrong. You are getting 3 to 1 expressed odds because of the other guy in the pot. Implied odds are massive here because you are both so deep and it's 30p to potentially win over £10 if both players get it all in.

I dont really get the min click after the utg limp.  See it a lot but just dont see the point.

Pre flop 3bet call pretty standard on value though

flop raise is too big imo, i would make it 1.60-2.00

Preflop just limp along or make a proper 4x raise.

Flop can 3bet a lot smaller, £2 will do as flop is super dry.

over raising at NL4 is good imo

Either limp pre or make it 16p to go.

As far as the call pre flop, i like to have the potential to win around 15-20 times the amount raised to make the call and you easily have this so it is an absolutely fine call.

The raise on the flop maybe too big but overbetting is your friend at NL4 so you get a 'well played' from me on that although if and when you step up a level or two the flop raise will have to be more sensible but hey, for now its good.

The consensus here seems to be that raising on the flop is good. Against inexperienced players at NL4 who can't fold an over pair on a dry flop no matter what the action I agree - raise flop for value. But against a good player at say NL100 is a raise here a good play? I'm just wondering what we can expect our opponent to pay us off with? After a 3-bet his range is going to be narrowed down anyway. Surely a good player will smell a set if we raise?
