Heads up game improvement?

edited November 2011 in Poker Chat
Dear all poker fans having a browse through this forum,

Would any of the better heads up players on here be willing to help me improve my game? Even if we just sat at a freeplay table together and talked through a few hands / strategies i would be very gratefull.

Much appreciated,

Michael

Not a better player on the site by any means, but one thing that they'll probably all say is to be aggressive and put pressure on your opponent. If you find a high stakes heads up cash table with 2 experienced players playing, I doubt you'll see the small blind limping and the big blind checking hardly ever, whereas that is quite common on low stakes heads up tables.

Any ace is a big hand, so whereas at the start of the tournament, you're probably folding ace-rag most of the time, heads-up, any ace is a raising hand. The average hand in Hold'em is Q7 - Therefore, anything better than Q7 is going to be beating your opponents random 2 cards more than 50% of the time.

Also remember that if you see a flop, you'll miss the flop 2/3rds of the time (even higher if the board is paired), as will your opponent, so on the flop, first to bet will take down the pot quite often.

2 most important things in HU is position and aggression.
thats why sb/d always raise pre, on the flop ur last to act so if oppo miises flop n checks u can bet to take pot down.

also betting patterns are thing to look out for. if ur oppo normally bets 2x bb pre but has bet 4x on a hand normally means he has a good hand.
also keep ur bets the same no matter what 2 cards u have if u have 72 and u raise 2x bb when u get aces raise 2x bb as it disguises the strength of ur hand.
