Live game argument question.

edited November 2011 in The Poker Clinic
Final table.

Blind on blind.

I raise with A2d. Called. Flop KQ, something, two diamonds. I shove. Called by Q. Cards face up. No diamond. I'm soooo sad. Self dealt game and villain scooping cards and chips in. Spectators and fellow players say, no I'd hit back door straight. I hadn't noticed but everybody told me I had and I was eventually awarded the chips and he bubbled when there was a tiny stack left.

What on earth is the ruling here? I hadn't mucked my cards. I reckon he probably saw the straight. But he's also a mate that I travel to further afield live games with. I didn't want to see him bubble. But I did have the winning hand although I didn't notice it?

Morals/ethics/poker rules.

Discuss.

poker rules say card speak and in self dealt tourneys it is the players (involved or not) should help assess the board and get a winner for the hand.

the only way i can see you losing this pot is if the next dealer is so fast he flips the cards back over and starts shuffling then someone notices that you had a straight and there is no way to prove it.

It went all quiet. I was kinda drunk and still chip leader if I lost but heard someone saying "he's got a straight".

    I perked up.

    "Really?"

Wee Irish mate said, "Yeah! I called it. A, J or diamond! You had the A? You had the straight!"

The cards had been pulled in. But everyone said, yeah you had it. Villain was saying, "why say it now". But he musta seen it too. Awkward, awkward.

Binked the tourney so all's good. But awkward. I think I'd have fessed immediatedly. But my point is what's the ruling here?

It is my understanding that if the cards had been pulled in with your hand that is classed as mucking a winning hand, the problem is there is no defined "holy bible of rules" in the poker world with many casinos and card rooms having different rules. I think the lesson here is dont drink when playing poker and keep a track of your outs as the hand plays out.

Did'nt Phil Ivy do the same thing at a final table a few years back?
