Variance is it just code for getting donked out??

edited December 2011 in Area 51
Why do i continually see every bad beat put down to 'variance' when variance is obviously just a nice way of saying you just got donked on by a complete lucky fish? Hand % statistics mean nothing on this site so please stop banging on about them. AK will not beat AQ 70% of the time and AA will not hold up against KK 80% of the time lol it just does not happen with the software lol

    It's another word for luck.

You can experience positive and negative varience just like you can have good and/or bad luck.

Sounds like you're going through a period of negative variance/bad luck/being donked out by lucky fish alot, whatever u wanna call it.

There's nothing you can do about it though. embrace it!

The harder u practice, the luckier u will get  ;)

lets put it this way when my 'Variance goes positive' beware lol seriously though how do you deal with playing good poker running deep getting around the bubble and getting your AK AA KK etc re raised by AJ A10 etc and the mythical 2 jacks come on the turn and river once is funny 2 times ok fair play but when your busting out continually this way how do you deal with this??

Honest answer is I can't deal with it.

That's why mtt's aren't for me. I can't handle playing good poker and losing because I got unlucky.

MTT's are the highest varience form of poker. I had difficulties handling the varience, so looked at other possible games.

So now I only play cash games, and HU sngs. Of course they bring their own mental challenges, poker is a very tough game mentally.

I'll play tournaments that are turbos/velocity. I can still get outdrawn or coolered on the bubble, but at least it only takes an hour or so, and not 3/4 hours to get scroooood over, I find this much easier to deal with!

Sporny, i find it incredible the number of times  flush draws get there. Have now come to the conclusion that if flush draw is on there is no point in betting big to deny odds cos they will chase anyway and when they hit in an mtt you are  usually out or at least crippled.
