Are you tired of paying for 2 or 3 attempts to Satellite into Main Events

edited December 2011 in Community Suggestions
I know I am, and I have had the thought for some time now that instead of paying twice or three times, It would be better if I just combined that money and played in a satellite that half the field went through and I had 1 attempt.

Also having played survivor, I had the thought that this format could be used to satellite into other MEs too.  Take the Sunday Roller for instance, you could have a survivor style qualification running throughout Saturday and into Sunday, and buy in at the level that suits.

Your thoughts....

if I'm going to pay half the buy in for a 50% chance I'd be inclined to just buy in direct to be honest.

The point is that not everyone has the BR to buy in direct.  That is why they try to Satellite in.  It may suit some Rolls to try at 50%.  Many try 2 or 3 satellites anyway, so in a 1 in 5 Sat, they pay 40-60% anyway, but still only have a 20% chance of going through.

The survivor idea seems to me to be a solution to give players with a variety of rolls to have a better chance of getting into the ME.

great idea and I definitely think it would boost numbers in the Main Events. I know I'm reluctant to play sats to the ME for this exact reason.

I understand the point, was just giving my opinion, which is what you asked for :)

Would be a good idea, the survivor series has been a success.

Only threat it might incur is reducing the numbers in the normal satellites, something which i am usually prepared to pay 1/5th of the buy -in, if i lose well then theres always tommorow no need to play in the ME every night... And if you are wanting to play in it every night then you should sustain the BR too anyways.

    The Idea's sound!
    What about a Mega (-M-ain -E-vent -Ga-me) Survivor?
Starting on a Sunday £1 entry The prize at the finish a main and mini event pass for the following week?
Thats the sort of prize everyone wants to win!
Sky could run it without a rake because they would make money from the rakes for the main & mini event prizes.
Depending on the entry you could have a prize of Main Event pass for 2nd and Mini event pass for third!
I'm sure it would appeal to all from Spornybol to Yoyo

This sounds like a great idea, and one that could really work too.

    I hope you're right!
I forgot to mention To encourage a larger entry at the beginning there could be a last longest award perhaps a single Main Event Entry to the person who survives longest from the first day!

    What do you think?

Normal satellites may suffer slightly, but the overall numbers trying to sat into the main event I reckon would be increased.  Surely the more options players have, the more it will encourage players of varying skills and bankrolls to have a shot at the big tournaments.

I understand your opinion on the half price satellite.

What is your opinion on the Survivor Satellite idea?

I too like the survivor idea.....small buy-in,hopefully plenty of runners and value as well....what is there not to like.....gd work bhoysy and dunmidosh, you could be on a winner here.

The survivor idea is good but... the downside which Sky will surely point out is that it makes them zero profit if there's no rake. And if it takes players away from the other satellites where there is rake, then it loses them money.

I'm finding it hard to relate to your comment! In a competition where all prizes are entry to Sky tornaments as opposed to cash prizes. The rake for Sky would increase rather than decrease.
    Or am I missing something?

IMO It's win win! the prestige of winning the tournament and gaining entry to a weeks worth of ME's including Rollers for as little as £1 is priceless!
As a business proposition to have 100% of the prize fund reinvested in Sky tournaments rather than leaving through a customers account is a No Brainer!

Main event = buyin and pay rake

Normal satellites = buy in and pay rake.

Survivor Style = buyin + no rake

So if they do survivor styles then it reduces the number of people playing in the ones where Sky get rake
  • edited December 2011

The consensus of opinion seems to be in favour of a survivor style of qualifying for a ME.  In my opinion the more options given to players to qualify would lead to bigger fields, thus increasing the prize pool in the main events.

I understand Lamberts point about the rake on the satellites, but surely Skypoker and the players could discuss a solution to this.

I as a customer am dissatisfied with the current Satellite structure and think that it definitely could be improved.

No you're still not getting it!

Say 1st prize in cash was £1,000 that money would go into a customer account and could be gone forever

If first prize was tournament entries the full £1000 including rake would stay with SKY tournament satellites would still run and would only be short of the prizewinners.

I myself would love to rail yourself, Debdobs67, Yidette9, Spornybol,Samantha25,Salad24 etc for a week of main events because they are players who given a chance could go deep into Main Events.

A survivor style tourney could give them that chance

I don't think the powers that be realise the true potential of your Idea!
A comp that gives everyone the chance to be up there with the big guns and a chance of winning many thousands of pounds for as little as £1 .
Will not only draw in the silent masses currently playing on the site but once word gets out  many new customers will come flooding in.
Great post 678 whatever the outcome at least it gave us the chance to spit a few feathers!

I apologise if I offended you Lambert I didn't mean to. You are a solid player who I respect immensely especially after the success of your Heads Up tourney!
    Merry CHRIMBO!

Obviously the ideas we have come up with would have to be considered and developed.  I personally think something of this vein would be a welcome addition to what is on offer at Skypoker at the moment.  Here's hoping it might bay taken on board.

Merry Chrimbo to you too mate.
