Pre flop question with 8,8 with stack sizes, help please.

Hello. Me yet again.

Had been quite a nice table to be sat at to be honest, however stacks were getting too low and was thinking of moving on but there were one or two on the waiting list so was hoping for the shorties to go skint and go, i was'nt sure what to do in this spot.

Mr Blue joined in short and had shoved once or twice pre flop and it had got through.

Mr white is a reg who i have crossed before and he seems decent at this level.

Mr Black had just joined table with £1.60 and had lost a hand since he joined.

Mr Pink sat down with about 10-15 big blinds and seems to be quite aggro with that stack but usually later on in the streets, he has usually been quite passive pre, limp calling usually.

Basically, with so many short stacks, i cant set mine, i am really after Mr Whites stack with this hand but is this just a fold and wait for a better spot. Stacks are awkard. Whats the move?

A raise may induce a shove back over the top from the player on the button so may be worth trying to seclude him and take that stack, if you want the big stack your only getting it by set mining but your missing that flop 11 out of twelve times and your definately facing flop bets so i think only options are to reraise or fold

Dunno why people are trying to get it in.

You can just fold, even if Mr White calls too his range is really weak so you'd need some miracle set over set type flop to stack him.

Yeah you don't have set-mining odds against raiser and also can't make Pink fold (i'd imagine) so at best you are probz in race and could be dead sometimes.

Dohhhhhhh is right. Just fold. pocket eights are for set mining only at NL4 and you don't have the implied odds. As a rule your opponent should have at least 10x the calling price left in their stack come the flop for you to call with a medium pair.

The only other time you can get it all in pre flop with 88 is if you are last to act and facing one opponent who has shoved. Even then it's read dependant.

If you shove or raise here Mr is definatly calling, white and black probably call too, especially if one or both of the blinds call (neither of whom have yet acted). You could end up going six way all-in pre facing at least five live cards.

There are plenty of high equity situations at NL4 where you have a made hand. The best case scenario here is one caller with overs and you are around 54% favorite. The dead money from the other players might cover the rake but only just.

Yeah, i did fold. Just seemed a bit tight.

When i say i am after Mr White, i obviously mean by hitting my set.
