Moving around the games - does it help you?
Hi everyone
We've noticed a few people on various threads talking about trying something different from their 'usual' type of poker game on Sky Poker to try something different (like this thread by Devonfish5). Maybe it's linked to New Year resolutions, challenges or poker targets for the year ahead? - either way, it got us thinking...
- Does a trying something new help refresh your game?
- Does your overall game improve by playing a variety of poker formats?
- Are there particular lessons in one format that help another?
Be good to see what people think and share tips on what's worked well for them.
For example - sometimes people say that playing Omaha has helped improve their Holdem game or that the more formats you try the better your overall game is. So lets say you only play Holdem cash - does playing DYMs, MTTs or Omaha help your Holdem cash game too?
Thanks

I like to play omaha cash + tourney as stops me getting bored in torney. I think I made it to level 2 a couple of times last year with this method!
I cannot think of any lessons PLO8 has taught me for my hold-em, but it is such an interesting game that it provides a very nice alternative, and one I would play a lot more of if only there was a Main Event or Sky Roller PLO8 tourny.
The games I choose to play are usually determined by my mood. If im feeling relaxed I might choose an MTT, if I want to try and improve my BR ill go for a DYM. Lately ive fancied a gamble and gone for the action of HU.
When my heads on and im looking for a serious game I tend to go for an 8+ handed MTT, but unfortunately theyre few and far between on here. Mixed Holdem/Omaha is also a game that I find interesting and that id be tempted to play regardless of my mood.
Thanks for sharing your experiences guys, much appreciated.
thank you for the name dropping,
IT,S MADE MY DAY.
not that often us little fish get to see our names on screen.
as for myself, think i have always been quite disciplined and
definately think helps with b/roll management.etc.
as to moving around the games,
definately think it does help.
still got plenty to learn, really trying to "work out" the best way
of playing the 2p/4p cash games atm.
as i do think cash poker is where i would like to be playing
in the future.(if i can become good enough?)
have been playing dym,s recently, with some success
and cash regularly in freerolls.
all in all,i think the more you play the better,
as you can certainly learn from your mistakes.
i can,t comment regarding omaha,as i don,t play it.
definately think trying something new does refresh your game,
as playing dym,s has for me.
i,m back on the cash ready to dash!

As the hands are more complex in Omaha I find myself concentrating a bit more on working out opponents hands in both holdem and omaha. I would like to see more omaha players as DYMs take ages to fill!
