Can we ever fold here??

edited January 2012 in The Poker Clinic
So basically I insta-shoved here, but (without being results-orientated), could I have thought about it a little more. I mean surely he either has a set (therefore im miles behind), or he has the flush draw, and if the latter is true, can i let him have it as I still have a fairly playable stack??

    Nice hand,

If they just got a flush draw against your TP, never 'let them have it'

I mean surely he either has a set (therefore im miles behind), or he has the flush draw,

You need to give villan a much wider range than this.
44-10,10 he could flat these pre, with only 1 overcard he will think he is ahead on this flop.
    Flush draws, straight draws, A,4 A,5 5,6 4,5
we can asume villan will flat pre with K,8+, so K,8 K,9 K,10 K,J K,Q
You can also include some air in villans range like raggy aces.
Vs his range this is always a snap call.
TBH i would have a set as 1 of the least probable hands that he holds, he was lucky you had the hand you did.  He should flat the flop to let you continue with worse/air.

ok so i hate ur play here. if ur playing AK most of the time u should be 3 betting pre. if u get 4 bet over the top u can then make ur mind up depending on the opponant. so pre flop if u play the hand aggressivly maby he cals maby he folds. u have to make this at least 1800 IMO!i maby go biggger and pick up whats in the middle and then if he shoves take a flip if u want 1. but when u get AK in its a gambleing hand. i.e. if  u miss ur rarly good. people are going in with pocket pairs etc. the only times ur Good is when ur opponant has a smaller A. i would imagine this is the cash 50% 50% so up to u to shove realy.
also another point when u just flat call AK and u hit ur K i dont think u can be folding too much here. in this spot it was correct. well done. but over 100 hands in this i think it would be wrong.

scrap that i got the people mixed up. when he raises u what is he raiseing ever that u can beat? KQ (possibly) KJ (possibly) set hes always raiseing on that board when u show strengh pre flop. too many players fgo broke on top pair top kicker and that is what makes the best stand out from the rest. it will be very rare when a top player stacks off with 1 pair
