Bad beats then the no hole cards and blinds run me down

edited February 2012 in The Poker Clinic
for the last 2 weeks or so ive been playing tournys, and time after time i will be sat 7th or 8th in the last 12 with above average stack, i take 2 or 3 heavy beats leaving me with around 3000, by now the blinds are 400/800 or 500/1000 and i get no hole cards ,AT ALL, and the blinds just run my stack out, is it bad play, bad luck or what ?

In the later stages of a tourney, it's much less about the cards you've got, and much more about situations. If you've got a decent playable stack 20+ BBs then you can happily raise alot of unopened pots with any 2.

Keep the raise sizes low because you often get the same response from a 2x raise or 2.2x raise as you do with a 3x raise so you're just risking less for when you have to fold to a 3bet.

Getting hands is great towards the end of a tourney because it just makes it easier to be aggressive but you certainly can't rely on it.
