Question for Richard - Is there a prize for the longest opening post on a show thread?
    Posted by Machka
Lol Aaron. If there was a prize, I'm sure you'd be one of the frontrunners, Mod Machka...

Really liking these questions coming in for Ross Jarvis.

    Cheers guys.

Also, don't forget your comments on when the best time of the week/month/year is to be playing on Sky Poker- do the seasons make any difference?

And, if you see anything interesting on a TV table- e.g. Mastercash tables or the main events and would like Ross and Ryan's opinions on them then drop us the hand i.d. no. You don't have to be involved in the hand itself.

In particular we'd like hands that take place during tomorrow night's live broadcast, but if there's a really interesting one that takes place before then, then don't be shy!

I saw that Ryan was amongst the chip leaders, on day 2 of the £500 MTT at DTD, at the weekend.

Can you ask him which position he finished in, and how much money that paid, and also for some tips on going deep in MTT's.

    Thanks.

If Ross is truly articulate he must be Trucking good at Poker!

With my eyes on the £6k Open prize my questions are:

    1. Does he find writing has improved his game? or with poker evolving so fast does he find his natural game conflicts with the information overload available today?

    2. Now Ross is more recognised. Is it easier or harder, to grind the middle stakes tables?

    3. If he was just starting the game. Who would be his first choice as mentor? past or present.

    Question For Ross...

I think it's quite split even between alot of good MTTers, if you get to a final table with a decent chip lead are you in the camp of people who think you should try and run over the table and be applying constant pressure, or are you the kinda guy who thinks you should cruise comfortably knowing that you will still have a big stack when it gets 3handed and you're confident you can outplay the others to take it down?

Would like Scottys view on this too.

    An original question, for Ryan.

Umm, I saw that Ryan was amongst the chip leaders, on day 2 of the £500 MTT at DTD, at the weekend.

Can you ask him which position he finished in, and how much money that paid, and also for some tips on going deep in MTT's.

    Thanks.

PS - Seriously Ryan, great effort, man, but you just need that bit of run good at the sharp end. Have a word with Thewy.

Ryan is a formidable poker player and will be a prolific winner over the years to come. I'm looking forward to tonights show and will hope to run good and win an iPad2(and the cash). My question would be, for someone like me, starting off in the cash world after years as an MTT player, I'm struggling to find goals and motivations for playing. I love the excitement of MTT's but need to make money and have been convinced by many Sky Poker players and analysts that Cash is the way to go. Any advice on structuring my play, and setting my goals would be a great help. Best wishes. Shaun the Villa fan in Bham.

    question for ross

i see a lot of advice on the forums about players starting out at low level cash advising them to start low at no limit holdem. Does ross agree with me that this is incorrect advice? I personally would advise new players to learn omaha and even other varietys as without being rude they are very unlikely to become winners at holdem with so little edge in that game these days?

    thanks

Great questions- thanks everyone and good luck with the 6K Doublestack entry prize!

There's still plenty of time to get your questions in for Ross and Ryan.

Plus we're still a little light on your thoughts about whether online and/orlive poker is seasonal. Does it lend itself more to the winter months- when you tend to stay more indoors? or does it make no difference?

Do you tend to play poker more nearer the beginning of the month- after you've been paid- or some other time- or is it constant?

Are there certain times of the year that you avoid and for what reason?

Don't forget to forward those hands for us to look at tonight- wer're looking for good hands from the TV tables (i.e. any Mastercash table from here on or from the main event tonight).

Post the hand i.d. no. plus the reason you want it looked at and we'll put it on the telly!

Tournament guarantees would suggest it is seasonal, very, very seasonal!

Hi Richard, Ryan and who's that other fella again? lol.
Hope you all have a great show tonight, I will have one eye on it and the other on my tables tbh lol.

Is online and/or live poker seasonal?
I play most of my poker at night, so to me the only thing that disturbs my routine is Bank Holidays. I don't get much time off as I run my own business, so I have to make the most of them and get away. But the poker thoughts never leave my head, even when i'm sat on the beach chomping on an ice cream.

Does it lend itself more to the winter months- when you tend to stay more indoors? or does it make no difference?
I tend to play a similar amount of time, summer or winter tbh but not on X'mas Eve, X'mas day, Boxing Day & New Years Eve (Those are for Drinking)

Do you tend to play poker more nearer the beginning of the month- after you've been paid- or some other time- or is it constant?
I play the same volume throughout the month based on my bankroll, its money I have already allocated, so barring any major disasters this usually sees me through.

Are there certain times of the year that you avoid and for what reason?
Again.....X'mas Eve, X'mas day, Boxing Day & New Years Eve (Those are for Drinking)

Ryan aka Scotty77 has a tendancy when playing live, to lift his hoody over his head when he gets involved in a pot. I've been practising this technique, but can't remember whether it's the left or right hand I should be using? Can you ask him to demonstrate? Please.

    Is poker seasonal?

This time last year Ryan was going through a purple patch!
    Culminating in viva las vegas.
Begs the question what is he doing in the studio when he should be out there playing!

My personal opinion is poker is not only seasonal but hormonal

Hey guys, I missed the start of the show, did my question get read out?
  • edited February 2012
have either of them played wsop main event?  if so exit hand walkthrough pls

have they ever felt completely out of their depth on a particular live table? if so why?

what is their worst ever poker decision?  e.g. going pro too early etc

if they could learn one poker based skill from now what would it be and how could they attempt to learn it?
  • edited February 2012
    Hi

Loving the show :) A question about MTT's - Will you make more money from entering tournaments with large fields where the top prizes are massive relative to the buy-in, or smaller tournaments where it's easier to win, but the winner only gets a small amount?

    good show tonight richard...

    this sounding welsh thing ...

is it a case of if you sit down in a studio, look around, see no welsh people, it must be that you who is the welshman?

skypoker@bskyb.com?  It's not like you've been reading out the correct email address for 5 years is it?

    White shirt Rich?

I thought Black shoes, trousers, shirt, jacket, pants? were compulsory.

Great show so far.  Ryan, I heard you say that you thought your analysis was too dry but personally I think the more detail you can discuss each hand in the better.

Especially discussing why to make certain choices over others at various stages of a hand.
