Edit: I have decided to rename my diary to make it more interesting.
I have also given myself the long term goal of getting to £1500 from my January deposit of £15.
I don't have a specific date for this goal but hoping it could be this half of the year!
Well I have decided to start my own diary on here to go along with the others. My main reason for doing this is an attempt to keep focused on specific goals and to encourage me to stick at games within my BR.
So far I have been playing mtt's since near the end of January after building up a £15 deposit to £60 quickly playing nl4. I had good sucess building my roll up to £390 but then everytime it went past £300 I would try to play tournaments outside my BR, £11-£33 tournaments and a lot of £5.50+ satellites which has seen me lowering my BR below £200 and then building it back up again with smaller tournaments a few times.
For now I am going to switch back to cash at nl4 as cash games are far more consistent and don't require a consistent 2hr+ like most tournaments do. I am going to start with 6 tabling and move up to 9 tabling if possible even though it's a pain on my laptops screen.
Ok so here goes to typing this out again (and copying just in case).
First session was a fairly bad one and ended up £3 down after 9 tabling for a couple of hours. I would like to say it was down to bad variance but I honestly think it's mainly down to some habits from playing tournies that don't apply to cash games.
I had a few unlucky hands including KK vs JJ all in pre and he rivered a straight, thankfully he was only a mid stack for £2.80 so I didn't lose a BI + profit off the table. A few other but I honestly can't remember them now.
Hands I played badly where mainly a KK and AA:
My KK got raised after a bet on the flop and I insta jammed without thinking and immedietly realised the mistake as we where both 100bb deep and the opponent wasn't very aggressive so obviously he had flopped a set which lost me a stack. I'm putting this down to my mid-late tournament decisions and I didn't think it through before acting. In retrospect I should have flat called and placed a block-bet on the turn.
The AA the opponent checked the flop/turn and called my bet on a Kxxx board and then suddenly did a large donk bet on a Q river. He wasn't an aggresive player so I knew it was unlikely he was betting out a busted draw and probably unlikely to try and slow play a set. In my head I was screaming KQ! KQ! FOLD! but I had to call and see which cost me an extra £1.40 vs a fold.
My best played hands where 10/8 and 66.
10/8 I think I had opened from the button and the SB and BB called. I flopped a straight draw and played it agressive and bet the low flop. Both called an the turn completed it to a 5679 with a flush draw. One of the opponents put in a large bet and I don't think he would ever bluff this spot so I jammed knowing he would likely be on an 8 and I didn't want to give him time to rethink it with against a raise or flat call and stop on a river scare card. He snap called and turned A8 with no flush draw .
The 66 I had a really bad table image having had to top up twice after the river being checked to me on a flush board and then my 3/4 bet being called by bottom pair (dont bluff at nl4 unless they canf fold!). I knew I looked like the donk that you should call down A high with. I called in after a bet and a caller to set mine and flopped the set on an A6x flush draw board. I raised the flop and turn after a bet knowing I could get value off AK/AQ maybe even worse as one opponent called down bottom pair on a flush board. I pushed the river after it paired with the turn card and got called. I expected to see aq/ak and one guy turned AQ but the guy who had earlier called with bottom pair turned a pair of aces so I lost the £15+ pot. I still think it was played correctly and I was always getting value off AK/AQ or worse off both players.
I think I have to plug some leaks mainly being to agressive/bluffing in some spots against the wrong players, over valueing my overpairs at times and sometimes probably playing my strong hands to agressively.
Overall a small loss but if I had plugged my leaks in a few spots and not been unlucky in a few I would have seen a nice profit of a few buy ins for the session.
One went up £4, should have been more realistically but some bad post flop plays and playing to wide after being up brought my profits down to only being £4. If I had only played AA/KK I would have actually been up more. That brought me up to £182.
The second I went down £5. The sessions started off good with me playing tight and slowly grinding. A couple of lucky rivers that dente my BI on a few tables made me tilt a bit and I ended up down for the session. I then thought it was a good idea to play a £3.30 tourny to cool down. Ended up getting donked and a guy hit 2 pair on the river with something like a5o vs my aq, had to call as 3/4 off our stacks where in. I rebought but shouldn't have as it was 150 blinds, doubled my stack but ended up losing it on flips, normally with the better hand but thats tournies for ya! With the tourney that brought me down to £170 doh!
Had a better session yesterday. Decided to play £2.20 and £3.30 regular SNG's (I can't do DYM's). Had some great sucess with them playing 20-30. Alot of 2nd/3rd places and some good comebacks from short stacks. Donked some of the HU but then it went the other way with other HU so I wouldnt say i got lucky when it was HU. That session put me up £26 so I might give SNG's another go again tonight. I've not played them much on Sky accept the odd DYM session which I am no good at.
Hopefully be a good weekend for cash and SNG when I have more time and more fish are out to play .
Great day today with SNG's and a couple of tournies.
Played the £11 500gtd (probably shouldnt with BR) and cashed 8th for £35 (+24)
Also had a go at a £3.30 speed with a one rebuy and came first for £70.80 (+64.2)
I did the £5.50 Omaha £500gtd with high hopes, got donked twice off a loose cannon getting it all in preflop with KKxx one suit. Then I went for a 3rd with the same hand and he had actually had AAxx this time and it held. I hope he didn't win with his sick luck lol (-16.50)
Also did well on the regular SNG's playing 2.20, 3.30, 5.50 and one 11. Some good first and seconds and ended up around £35 ish not to sure on the exact amount with tournies/cash.
Played cash for a while before I started sng/tournies, not sure if I was up or down but either way it was minor as I only played a while.
Overall a fantastic night and the hours have really paid off being up £35 from SNG's and £72 from tournies.
I do wish the regular SNG's where more active as I much prefer the slow blinds and prize distribution. Comon guys and gals surely some of you want to play these SNG's more?
Just looking at some stats on sharkscope with some filters at my sng games. Filtering it between DYMs, regular and speed. my DYM ROI is -42% and my regular sng is +32% and regular speed sngs are -17%. I defintely have a much bigger edge with the regular games where theblinds are slower.
I should probably stick with regular sngs over anything else at the moment for the consistency and the good ROI. It is a shame though that I will only ever be able to progress so far on Sky with the regular sng's because of the low amount of players on them.
Annother good session. Played some heads up cash. Beat a guy at 10nl for £12 and I couldnt resist playing a guy at 50nl because he was not a good player and got paid off for £150.
Sadly I decided to play some more HU at nl10 and nl8 and lost £40. Also played some sngs, a 5.50 and a 11 tourny. Sadly no decent cashes which has sent my BR down a bit from the big wins earlier.
Thanks guys really great to hear some voices and feedback that I am not alone on my thread .
Not a great night overall. Played some 4nl but lost a bit of BR not sure how much. Also joined the mini primo for 5.50 and went out after 3 hands with aj vs kk all in on the flop doh.
Decided to give DYM's another shot after that with some sucess. Played the 30/60p to get into the swing of them then grinded some 1.15 games. Overall had 13 losses and 29 cashes between all levels. Feels like it barely affected my BR but I guess if I could move up to the 3.30's and grind them sucessfully it would be good. They are also fantastic for grinding points!
Look at your OP you said 'Cash nl4' was all you was going to play lol - My guess is if you keep entering high buy in tournaments & HU cash at nl10 & nl50 you will never have enough discipline to build up a decent roll.
I havent played many high buy in tournaments. I played 1 £11. I shouldnt be playing nl10 yet but I am over rolled for it. The nl50 was a one off that I had to to do when such a bad player was at the table giving away money. Yeah I have gone away from cash and played some tournaments and more sngs than anything but it's never been out of my bankroll really so I think I am doing ok with the BR discipline it's just different types of games.
Played some more DYM's todaygrinding 3 2.25 and 3 3.30 tables at a time. Ended up with 9 wins and 5 losses at 3.30 and 8 wins and 6 losses at 2.25. Combined 17 wins and 11 losses which put me up to 409. I won't lie I am kind of dissapointed I honestly thought I would be taking away more than £6 the wins over 28 games! Still they are very consistent and steady so good for BR now I am beating them. Also fantastic on the points front which is good! I may try 9 or 12 tabling them when I get more used to them as the decisions as often push or fold should be ok with more than 6 tables.
Another good steady day playing DYMS. Starting to enjoy them a lot more now I can beat them lol. I can seewhy people like to grind them for consistency. All about staying tight and letting everyone else tear each other apart! Push light and call tight!
Moved up to playing 9 tables mixed of 3.30 and 5.50 and did pretty well. Tempted to move up to 11 but definetly need more BR in case of swings. I actually did better at the 5.50's, I think I was perhaps being tighter and playing slightly better at 5.50 without meaning to because of the higher buy in.
Overall I had 8 wins and 2 losses at 5.50 and 8 wins and 6 losses at 3.30. Totaling 16 wins and 8 losses with a 66% win rate.
Played 3 5.50 and 3 3.30 winning 3 3.30 and 1 5.50. I got a bit to spewy in some spots on the 5.50's.
One spot which cost me a 5.50 game, a guy was annoying me 3 betting almost every hand I raised so I called with 10/7s I think and shoved a K high flop with the other half of my stack. Annoyingly he called with AQs with no draws and just the one over.
Cant wait to get my cash for points now after calculating it! I think it was £42 for 3k points and £64 for 4k (which I think I will hit). Yay BR boost could get me to over £500, happy days!
Thanks guys, nice to see some more readers and posters!
I think some of it was probably luck at the start .Getting to 60 was pretty easy seemed every table I joined was a donk fest and happy to call weak for my full stacks (£1.60 at the time). Then I did really well in the small field and buy in tournaments and probably caught the better side of variance.
I feel so far I am doing really well with the DYM's and pretty much crushing them. Hopefully it's not just a good variance swing, I did donk a fair amount today, seems mostly against rancid so sorry for that if you read rancid! But to be fair it happens both ways so I am hoping this isn't just a big upswing the last few days!
Had a good session on my dinner break and a great session tonight. Mainly playing the 5.50's. Here are the results:
Dinner session:
5.50 : 6w, 4l
3.30 : 2w, 2l
total : 8w, 6l
57% win rate
Night session:
5.50 : 26w, 12l
3.30 : 1w, 1l
total : 27w, 11l
71% win rate
Current Standings:
£492 BR
3170 Points
3022 Cash Points
1249 STT Points (since I am playing so many lately)
I'd also like to ask anyone who has played DYM's a lot advice on moving up. To this point it's not been much of a concern as I have had plenty of buy ins for the levels. The next level would see me less than 50BI and I imagine a 10 game swing would a killer especially if you had to move back down to recover it. Also what is the worst swing people have had here if they play many?
I'm currently using a 40BI strategy for the £5.50 level (and move down if I drop below 30, so gives me 10BI's to play with) but am aiming for 50BI's to start feeling safe.
To move to next level I'd want 40BI's again and give myself 10BI's again till I have to move down.
Of course you can use an idea JC has in his blog of 22BI's then take two shots, if you win keep playing if you lose move down, this sounds simple but due to variance it's quite hard to make this work, well at least I found it hard lol
EDIT : On the downswing at £3.30 recently had ~15BI one over 2 days, just lots of beats, coolers, flips etc, but regulary get 4BI down days when it's just not going your way, which will happen trust me, so you need enough ammo for when that happens.
That sounds like a good idea, atm I have been trying 5x 5.50 tables and 1x 11 table at a time so if I don't do well I have the losses covered. Doing ok so far but to early to say if I can beat them consistently.
Had another good session. Started off badly wasn't quite playing right being to wide in spots and to tight in others. Ended the same way to but overall it's been good.
Forgot to post my DYM's last night and I no longer have the results d'oh! It was a good session though and winning at 5.50 and 11.
Also played some cash for a change, but this time I really tightened up like I mean to and it paid off. Playing 3 tables NL4 and 3 tables 8-10NL and ended the session up £20 ish. Think I might have some more stabs at cash today as I need to improve.
super sick sessions today. Not sure if it's because it's a saturday and the donks are out or I'm just running hot. Some small wins at 10nl 4nl and massive wins at 11 and 5.50 DYMs. Feeling very comfortable playing 11 now just not as much tables there unfortunately.
Closing on the top 150 sng players. Hope I make it to the league stars freeroll!
