Moving up?

I've recently won a large amount in a tourney and now my bankroll is around £150. Is this a decent amount to play tourneys where the buy-ins are around £5 or should I stick with £3 and below?

    i would stick to playing £3 or less tourneys are such high variance i would even consider playing a less buy in like the £1.10 mtts gd luck

    Yeah £150 is no where near enough to play £5 MTTs because the variance is just way too high.

    Stick to them cheapo deepstacks like the ones that get played in the DTD

    Tbh I wouldn't even play £3.30 MTT's with that roll, 50BI's seems a lot but if you're playing correctly (going ftw) you can easily go 20+ games without cashing and then you've almost bust half your roll.

    IMO just stick to the £2.20/£1.10 deepstacks and build your way up gradually.

    Another point I might add is it's probably not best to rely on MTT's to 'build a roll' as variance is super high so it could be better to build through cash/STT and then basically freeroll into MTT's with the possibility of a mega win but with zero pressure.

    Finally once again NONE of the above is relevent if you can regulary deposit and therefore don't NEED to win.

    lighten up dude fgs, he got  150 quid, hes a rec player!!! 3/5 quid for an mtt is fine. i bet you even put the cork back in a bottle of wine with 1/2 a glass left in it. live it up, push the boat out once and a while. go on sit on a table 4 levels higher than you should, its called living!!! :-)

    Also fwiw the guy's asked a valid quetion and I've gave him my opinion yep I can have an opinion.

    Why would I give him bad advice that would most likely see him lose overall it would make no sense.

    It's very easy to play above your BR/budget but when it goes wrong it ain't so easy to get it back, I'd personally rather never put myself in the position to go broke.

    i know you would never put yourself in that situation, thats why i wrote it lol. its sound advice (as always). just that sometimes people should risk a bit, get the old heart banging a bit. im all for being risk adverse but sometimes its good to live life on the edge. £5 mtts are the way forward!!

    Yeah totally agree, I love that heart beating feeling, as you watch your QQ race against AK late in a tourney praying to hold, it's what makes poker great, but I just don't want the enevitable 'low' if you lose to be so bad that it affects you for a while afterwards, being rolled allows me to shrug my shoulders and move on.

    Wow dudeskin, its not like these £5 tourneys are getting consistenly huge numbers of runners. The fields are small, the variance is less because of this, not to mention that they are full of poor players.

    30 buy ins is plenty for £5 tourneys on this site. Just move back down if you feel out of your depth/ can't play well because of the buy in size/ you drop below 20 buy ins.

    Well I understand this but personally I prefer playing MTT's where the top prize equates to a chunky number of BI's, so therefore makes a big difference if I actually win the thing, small number tourney's often have a top prize of like 5-6 BI's which for me isn't worth the effort.

    And with playing higher runner games the variance increases so bigger BR needed.

    Obvz if you're happy playing 30-runner MTT's that's cool but I just dont.

    you got to experience the lows to appreciate the highs, most better play poker for the thrill and the excitement, im not saying to put hes whole roll on 1 game, but i think he has some scope to push the boundries and live life with the high rollers , like i say £ 5 mtts isnt going to break him, like ncolly says if he loses a few, drop down. "better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all"ps ,do you wear brown jumpers and blazers with leather elbow pads ?? :-)

    27 BI's just doesn't feel enough, for DYM's/cash it's plenty but not for MTT's.

    Also guys why all the Dudeskin bashing, Lamby and Idonk basically said the exact same as me lol

    Play 5 and 10 quid tourneys with the odd 20 quid buy-in too.
    You're not a pro - all this bankroll management stuff if OTT.

    Stick to the 1-3 buy ins for your roll. The 5-10 buy ins will most likely see you swinging back and forth a lot  with your BR as I did. It will probably be a lot more fun to see your BR consistently growing at the smaller games until you have a bigger roll to rather than risking to much. 

    Of course playing the odd 5 is fine for the fun and chance of bigger wins but its probably better to do that when your roll is over x amount after a win at smaller tournies.

    If your looking for thrills and excitement purely rather than building BR then try satelliting with the 2-5 games for the 30-100 tournies. Much harder to cash on them with that sort of roll as you have to satellite and can't play many. But I can tell you when your in the 100 BI tournies your heart beats fast even when your folding 7/2o :p.

    Lot to take in lol... But I think I've decided that I'll stick with the £3.30 and below for now... I'm relatively new to tourneys as I've mainly played SNGs and I know there is higher variance in MTTs. Cheers for the advice anyway! Haha
