what do you do with aces in this spot?

edited February 2012 in The Poker Clinic
only been at the tables a few rounds villian is been limp calling nearly 100% of time not seen him raise also not seen him fold pre either.

the reason i`ve posted this hand is that i`ve been stacked about 3 times this week in similar spots so want to know if its standard or if i`m fallin love with top pair so any advice would be great thanksPlayerActionCardsAmountPotBalancesoong09Sit out    maruffSmall blind £0.05£0.05£18.12Ted666Big blind £0.10£0.15£13.20teddy991Sit out     Your hole cardsAA   shinnywingCall £0.10£0.25£12.71liamboi11Raise £0.50£0.75£9.50maruffFold    Ted666Call £0.40£1.15£12.80shinnywingFold    Flop  2QK   Ted666Check    liamboi11Bet £0.86£2.01£8.64Ted666Call £0.86£2.87£11.94Turn  J   Ted666Bet £2.87£5.74£9.07

guess he had KQ or QJ then?

ul, hard to fold here, but given reads that he is generally very loose passive as soon as he bets its raises alarm bells!

You only mention preflop though, how does he normally play the streets, have u seen him showdown anything before?

what i`ve seen post flop he usually gives up if missed and calls or raises when connected so think the jack defo helped him on the turn maybe kj,qj maybe even 109,a10 usually loose passive players bet strong when the have a gd one

I'd prob call the turn bet. Looks like he might have hit though, maybe fold better. Your postflop reads seem very specific for only a few rounds though

if you call turn bet what are u doing on most rivers?

I dont understand why we call the turn... even if we hit our set we cant be confident

    happy to listen

Are you saying we shouldnt call turn as its a fold or that we should shove if we are continuing?

Meh the more I look at it fold is prob best, but when a bad player plays a hand like this I find it hard to fold AA.

i go all in and then quickly click the get more chips button

if he is a fish he is also prob falling in love with hands like K10 and J10 on that turn.  depends how fishy and what your reads are.

we also have outs and block both nut flush draws.

he could also have 10x of clubs which now looks very pretty to fish and i think KQ is too strong to be limp called with

basically im a station and im ready to reload here :)

Just saying that if I call, im not 100% sure on the end and because i dont think hes bluffing the end or capable of bluffing it, i think i prefer folding the turn.

If im pretty sure im good im shipping it for value, but there is too much doubt here!.

If i just call the turn, im hoping for a cheap showdown and that wont happen that often imo considering he potted the turn!

But i do agree that folding AA is pretty annoying, maybe i do it too often i dunno! lol

Raising bigger pre since he 'never folds'

Betting flop bigger since he loves to call

I think I prob call turn and check out what villian does on river, its really amazing how fish's range is super polarized in this spot though. Some love to lead full pot as a bluff, others love to lead full pot as 'value'.

a have notes sayin loose passive, calls anyfin pre flop so played him b4 cant remember the name though and playin a few rounds just confirmed what a had my notes but just had a feeling in my gut i was beat maybe wrong but always tell you to go your gut, plus loose passive players bet big most of time with hands better than a pair imo

This does also depend on what oppo thinks of you, even massive fish know if you are tight or loose, because of that I wouldn't fold as they usually seem happy to get 2nd pair in against me at that level!
  • edited February 2012
BTW he didn't click the "pot" button (unless the hand histroy is displaying it wrong) If he did manually type £2.87 that does make me more wary of a good hand :S

i think most players at these levels play their cards more than what they thought of my image 2 be honest but i understand what you are saying m8

loose passive plyrs usually do containment excercises til they hit so i reckn fold as best option, plus with that turn too many variations for AA to be safe
