I agree . . . fatal to commit yourself with a rubbish hand like KK.

I've pulled the shutters down now, and am just in the process of burning off the freebie brownie points I earned on the freeroll MTTs. Last one I got my marching orders on was a KK shove on my part called by someone with ace-rubbish. Needless to say an ace hit the flop. Why am I not surprised? I've got three MTT's worth of points to use up, and when done that's me finished with online poker.

Looking at the numbers, the trouble is against any hand all-in pre-flop where the caller holds an ace KK ain't that great a hand - it just looks good. The chances of an ace putting in an appearance are c30%, and an ace and a king together c24% - so odds are 3-1 (1/4) that an ace will show and win (not accounting for all of the other longer odds draws possible). This is the same as flipping a coin and getting two heads on consecutive flips (1/2x1/2).

If you apply the Kelly critereon, with KK v A? (where there's an approx 50% advantage, 76%-24%) you should only be chucking in 50% of your stack, although in this game players will regularly chuck in 100%, on the basis of "getting it in while ahead". The cause of much frustration and mental health issues me thinks.
