Sky Poker Forums is upgrading its look! Stay tuned for the big reveal!
Diaries - where do you want them?
Howdy folks,
With more and more diaries popping up in GPC, it's had me wondering if you'd prefer to have a dedicated section of the forum for them to go in, or if you rather have them in General Poker Chat?
Pros and cons of moving them (as I see it, anyway)
Pros: more people read them as GPC is definitely the busiest part of the forum. That means more people want to write them and that's not a bad thing (unless they're rubbish, which they're not!)
Cons: does it stop other GPC threads getting as much time on the front page as you'd like? Does it mean the GPC is too diary full?
I am literally undecided on this one, so what do you guys think?

mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Then we can find the ones we follow easily.
:-)
I think it would be a horrendous decision to move the Diaries to a seperate board.
GPC needs pepping up - badly, VERY badly - & the Diaries COULD do that. They could, if managed well, completely freshen up & rejuvenate GPC.
The current Vote is very much against my line of thinking, & I'll accept & respect whatever decision is made. Currently, I read every Diary, every day, but I doubt I'd do that if I had to change Boards, personally I just don't have time to peruse the other Boards.
Else GPC is simply DEAD
but hey ho what ever the masses want!
Regularly Updating them is the key, & if we had 6 or 8 Diaries on the go, regularly updated, GPC would spring back to life.
It's the very nature of Forum Diaries that most drop by the wayside because of lack of regular updates, and they in turn get replaced by others.
I made some, I hope, helpful hints & comments on Tommy's Diary this morning, follow these, keep them nice & fresh, & with an eclectic range of subjects, (not just poker, DEFFO not just poker) & they cannot fail.
Good Posts by the Diary owner generate lots of interest & replies from readers, these then get respnded to, & the activity on GPC suddenly takes off.
I keep an Online Diary elsewhere which has had 1950 posts since January 1st this year, & 38,000 views in the same period, & as most of you know, I'm not exactly Mr Interesting, other Diaries get far more, I imagine. Of those 1,950 Posts, I doubt 10% were by me - the rest were responses, & others debating topics, which I have raised.
If we had 6 or 7 decent Diaries here all doing that, the whole tone, mood, & activity level of GPC would be uplifted. And it needs to be uplifted, badly. This is a Forum, not Customer Care, & it should reflect that, it was never intended to be the place where Customer Care conducted their business.
Forums are what WE make them. Nobody can point fingers, Forums get the readership their Members deserve. I think we deserve better, & it is in our own hands to make it better.
As to whether Diaries stay on GPC, or have their own board, that's Blandy's shout, & I won't argue, but there's no chance I'll be navigating inter-board any time soon, I just don't have the time. I'm quite sure the Diaries will manage vey nicely without my input!
There are some good non diary GPC threads but sadly they are getting fewer and fewer. Never is there a more blatant example of how losing fabulous thread starters can damage a forum. (Irish Rover, we miss you). GPC needs something to get it going, diaries seem to have a chance of doing this. While it is chock full at the moment as starting a diary is en vogue this will thin out over time as people lose interest in updating regularly.
Also, breaking all forum convention and encouraging people to click 'Page 2' isn't a bad thing.
amazing a sky member asks this question and will get more replies than my ORIGINAL THREAD.
so sky dave i`m still taking credit, lol
edit: my thread also got moved too community suggestions, i take it yours won`t ?? he-he
So TWO folks have changed their mind now?
The same applies to diaries. If they are good to read, which many of them are, we will make that extra click and be able to go straight to the ones we want to view.
I think splitting them will actually encourage more of us to start them, while making GPC easier to follow too.
I reiterate, at least 50% of recent non-diary threads in GPC have been 'Where's my C4P?' 'Sort it out Sky' 'I'm Leaving' 'Fixed Site' 'Bad Beat Yawn.' GPC needs fixing, the diaries might do that.
In short, the loading time would become unacceptably slow. er.
Like many, I have invested a lot of time & energy into this Forum, but it's now entered a sort of stupor, for the reasons Tommy explained.
I would bet my mortgage on being able to increase the Post Count by 50% within a month by some subtle changes, encouraging better quality Threads, & diaries fill that bill. That would result in more active Members, more content, & more more. It's simple.
PS - I don't have a mortgage. ALL BETS ARE OFF.
But to be honest some players seem to post them just to appear on the forum.
In my opinion I would like to see a diary template.
Threads would be consistant and results could be compared easier to pick up best practices.
Come on Tikay, is this fair debating tactics ? We all appreciate just how busy you are, but threatening not to read diaries if they are put in their own section is going a bit far as a means of swaying opinion to meet yours.
You know that your contributions to any thread are welcomed and sought after by forum members. And if you are really saying that you would not make an extra click to read something as interesting as TommyDs diary, I have to say I do not believe you.
There are around a dozen active diary threads at the moment and I will continue to follow them wherever they are. As Tommy rightly says we do get too many pointless threads started on GPC, but filling the front page with diaries is not going to make them disappear. And there are still many worthwhile non diary threads on GPC.
Not an issue to fall out over though. I just wish my poker (and my life in general) at the moment was a little more interesting, so I could start my own diary thread !
