Double Stacked exit - strategy needed for deep in tourney

This was my exit hand from the £33 double stacked mtt last night. I finished in 11th and got just over £100. However, I was going for the win and not the laddering which is why I went with the 9s.  It's been bugging me since as I was voluntarily going to put my tourney life on the line with a coin flip as the opponent couldn't fold.

Should I have waited for the situation of putting my money in first as I knew that I'm gonna be flipping when so deep in a game?

If you got your money in first you probably wouldn't be so annoyed, calling the all in makes it feel worse.

If I'm down to six big blinds on a six-max table, my money's *so* going in with 99!

You're right, Phil - Madog's initial raise is a virtual all-in, so you don't have any fold equity, but a medium pair still rates to be in front.  And in this situation, it was...marginally.

But you can't beat yourself up about losing coin flips.  It's not like you "did a Hartigan" and donked off your entire stack with A7 against AA :-)

You made the right move imo. As you say you were going for the win, and with only about six bb's left my money would definitely be in there. Also with 9s being a slightly better than average pair, there was more chance of you dominating an underpair than being dominated yourself by an overpair. Even if, as it turned out, it was a coin-flip, you were still getting the odds to move all-in having already posted the small blind.
