F1 2012 Season - This Season: +£2.70

edited July 2012 in Betting Chat
As there's no F1 threads in here, I'm making one :P

Australia GP Race:

1) Kimi Raikkonen to win @ 150/1 EW (1/5 first 3 places) - Kimi qualified 18th yesterday, after making a mistake on his qualifying lap and getting knocked out in the first part of qualifying. His team mate, Romain Grosjean pulled out an amazing lap, and qualified 3rd, showing what the car is capable of. With DRS and KERS, overtaking is much easier than in previous years, so if he keeps his nose clean on the first lap, I would expect him to come through the pack pretty quickly.

He's also 6/5 to finish in the points (Top 10), which is worth a punt if you don't fancy him to finish on the podium.

2) Felipe Massa not to be classified @ 9/2 - Felipe Massa has been a shadow of his former self ever since his accident at Hungary in 2009. He only retired from 3 of the 19 races last season, but this season's car looks pretty awful to drive, he's already finished one of the practice sessions backwards in a gravel trap, and he's only finished this race 4 times in 9 starts.

My bets:
£1 on Kimi Raikkonen to win @ 150/1 EW
£1 on Felipe Massa not to be classified @ 9/2

So far this season: +£8.50 (2 qualifying match bets which both won, posted them in my Poker diary thread yesterday)

Crazy last lap! Regret not sticking a couple of quid on Raikkonen to get into the points now...lol.

Massa retired at the end of Lap 48 after contact with Bruno Senna, so wasn't classified, and a nice return for me. Raikkonen only managed to get to 7th, was expecting him to be in contention for the podium despite his grid position, but the pace of the Red Bulls in the race relative to qualifying took me by surprise.

£12 up this weekend though, so very pleased with that :D

    Qualifying:
    £2 on Schumacher to out-qualify Rosberg @ 11/4 - Schumacher 4th, Rosberg 7th (+£5.50)
    £3 on Kovalainen to out-qualify Petrov @ 1/1 - Kovalainen 19th, Petrov 20th (+£3.00)

    Race:
    £1 on Raikkonen to win @ 150/1 EW - Finished 7th (-£1.00)
£1 on Massa not to be classified @ 9/2 - Retired at end of Lap 48 (+£4.50)

Read your thread last night pingu and stuck a tenner on raikonnen to finish in the points. Good pick on massa not being classified as well

Nice one :) Bet you were a bit nervous on the final lap though with Raikkonen 10th and the 2 Toro Rossos about half a second behind, though.

The Safety Car hasn't been deployed in the Malaysian Grand Prix since 2001* - Despite this, Sky Bet are offering 13/9 that the Safety Car will NOT appear at any time during the Malaysian Grand Prix. I've stuck £4.50 on it.

*The Safety Car was sent out in 2009 following a downpour, but as the race was red flagged almost immediately after this, this meant that the race technically ended before the Safety Car was deployed.

    Bump!

Watching 3rd practice at the moment, will post any tips for qualifying shortly. Qualifying starts at 8am.

Also, the odds on no Safety Car are now down to 5/4, still worth a couple of quid but get on it ASAP for the best price, I reckon.

Don't really fancy anything for qualifying tbh. Maldonado 150/1 EW might be worth a punt, I guess.
  • edited March 2012
Looking at the clouds, slightly worried about my tip now, lol. I'm gonna be gutted if there's a safety car start...

Had a punt on 10p e/w on Hulkenberg @ 500/1 (1/5 first 3 places), as he's phenomenal in the rain.

The Chinese Grand Prix is next weekend, with first practice ridiculously early in the morning.

My first tip is to avoid Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi at any price. Perez is a good driver, with a massive future in the sport IMO. However, following his heroics in Malaysia, I doubt there'll be any value in putting any money on him as the odds will be terrible, and the prices on Kobayashi will also have shortened significantly as a result.

Same as above applies for Alonso - World class driver, in a rubbish car which has no hope of winning anything this season without help from the weather.

Both Williams drivers have shown the car is much quicker than last season, and appear to have genuine pace this time around - Maldonado more so than Bruno Senna. At the moment, you can get 11/8 on Maldonado to finish in the points in China. He hasn't scored a point so far this season, due to a last lap crash in Australia when he was 6th, and engine problems in Malaysia when running 10th with 3 laps to go. However, he definitely has the pace to get into the points, just needs a little bit more luck.

Stuck a couple of quid on Maldonado to get points in China, will post any other tips if I fancy anything.

Forgot to post any tips during the last race weekend on this thread, although there wasn't much out there. I would've tipped Button @ 4/1 so maybe a good thing I didn't post in here, lol. My Maldonado points tip won me a couple of quid if anyone else backed that :)

Bahrain GP this weekend - Of course, everything in here is assuming that the race goes ahead without incident. Personally, I don't believe there should even be a Bahrain GP this year, as there's still obviously problems in the country - The Porsche Supercup, one of the support series for F1, and also an FIA sanctioned event has already pulled out due to safety concerns, which IMO suggests the only reason F1 is racing in Bahrain this year is Bernie Ecclestone and £££...Not heard that one before. >_>

What price of some crazy person running on the track, like Silverstone '03 or Hockenheim '01? Think it happened in Spain on the formation lap too a few years back.

    **********

Anyway - The Bahrain GP has generally been a boring race in the past.  Thankfully, they've reverted to the GP track rather than using the shockingly bad endurance track from 2010, so it's not going to be as boring as that one, but still not the most exciting race on the calendar either by any stretch of the imagination.

In it's short history, the Bahrain GP has seen some unusual pole-sitters, including Toyota actually locking out the front row once, and Robert Kubica's only F1 pole for BMW (In other years, the car on pole was the dominant team that season). Given that both of these cars were often near the top of the speed trap speeds, and given Mercedes' DRS, and their qualifying pace anyway this season, I can't see anything other than a Mercedes pole this weekend.

Felipe Massa also has an incredible record at this track - Despite his recent form being terrible, I wouldn't be surprised if the old Felipe Massa turned up this weekend and surprised some people.

    Therefore, I'm going for:

    Rosberg pole @ 4/1, £3
    Schumacher pole @ 13/2, £3
    Massa to score points @ 2/1, £1

1 safety car in 7 years, back in 2007, so 2/5 on no Safety Car may interest some, but I can't really be bothered.

i literally posted a huge post here and it signed me out and didnt send sigh. just of it was

Qualy id look to Hamilton, the McLarens arent far off the Mercs and Hamilton is very good i qually. Button id avoid but will be a Merc engine top 4 with Red Bull/Lotus and Maybe Alonso taking up the next 5 places. Grid slot 10 as aklways is up for grabs.

Race day, hard to look past Hamilton to finnish third. The lad defo added consistency lol. I rekon Button or Hamilton win, If the Merc have sorted the tire issue theyll be close and the Red Bulls very close too. This could be a very tight boring race.

    Bahrain Grand Prix

I normally stick a cpl of quid on outsiders for a bit of extra interest in the race

This week i,ve gone for the 2 most expereinced drivers and if they get close i may lay some off it off

K Raikkonen      £2 win         100/1              (ranges from 33-1 to 60-1 at most bookies so good value)

M Schumacher  £2.50 win   140/1              (knows the circuit better than anyone)

    MP

EDIT - Just spotted Evilpingus F! thread so i,ll add this post to that and this thread can be shut down pls

Just managed to lay Raikkonen off at 10/1 for £4.50 so i,m on a freeroll and Schumacher up tpo 16th from last - long way to go yet

It said before the race there would be a lot of lock ups and its looking true so far

EDIT with Raikkonen up to 3rd and setting consectutive fastest laps had to lay another £10 off at 5.1, - Still win £120 if Raikkonen wins tho and Schumacher up to 14th from last after lap 18 (optimistic?) knew i shudda backed him to get in points

EDIT - laid another £10 off Raikonen at 4.0 - so thats £20 gtd profit
EDIT - laid another £20 off |Raikonnen at 1.51 so thats £40 gtd but

£75 if Raikonen wins ( wish id gone out now and not watched it) wudda won £200 - he s gotta win it now - he,s all over Vettel
    £350+ if Schumacker wins

    Bumpity bump

No significant money elsewhere or I'd do this myself, but you can back Alonso at 14/1 for the Drivers' title with Sky Bet (may be better prices out there, too) and lay him at 14.5 on the exchanges, free money ftw if you don't mind waiting 6-7 months for it :)

yeah gott em. really wanted to do a points accumulator but seems u cant do that :( Not much value in doing singles. Put a brave £1 on Hamilton to win @ 16/1 if his tires hold together and he can overtake hes been lighting quick all weekend.

Rekon ill need some rain or a big crash though. Considering other bets but not decided on em yet

    Okay, my tips:

    1) Pastor Maldonado to score points @ 1.51

This is a bit of an obvious tip. "I expect the guy on pole to score points" - Duh. It's more of a tip not to back him for the race win despite recent history at this race.

The Polesitter has won this race in 9 of the last 10 years, the one exception being last year (with the introduction of DRS) when Mark Webber took pole and finished 4th. If you look at that record, then see the polesitter is like, 10/1, you'd probably think, and rightly so, that it's probably too good to be true.

Although Maldonado is quick this weekend, I don't think with DRS in F1 that he'd be able to hold off quicker cars behind like you could a few years ago, so I've backed him to score points instead but don't fancy him to win. The prices on Sky Bet are...well, I wouldn't back him at 2/7, so I've put £2 on him to score points at 1.51 elsewhere.

Also, Maldonado to win and the winner to be a Williams driver are both 10/1, so might as well back a Williams driver to win @ 10/1 instead if you're going to back Maldonado. I know there's probably more chance of hell freezing over than Bruno Senna winning this race from 18th on the grid, but might as well back Williams instead of just 1 of their drivers if both prices are the same. Stranger things have happened in F1 :)

    2) Bruno Senna to score points @ 9/4

He's starting 18th, however, there's no reason why he can't get into the points. Also, the Williams has been really strong in the race, so expect to see him finish in the lower end of the points. Stuck a quid on this.

    3) Grosjean to win @ 7/1 EW (1/5 first 3 places)

Thought this track would suit the Lotus team (What IS the plural of Lotus? Lotuses? Loti? Idk...) before the weekend started, qualifying confirmed that with them starting 3rd and 4th respectively following Hamilton's exclusion from qualifying, and I think both have a chance of winning - I don't expect Maldonado to stay out front for long, and I'm still not convinced by the pace of the Ferrari, although it has improved, I think the Lotuses/Loti/Whatever are the quicker car still, so I think the winner will be one of either Raikkonen or Grosjean.

Unfortunately, we'll never really find out how quick this Ferrari is, because Massa is c#@p, so we have nothing to compare Alonso to - I still expect both Lotus drivers to finish ahead of him though.

Raikkonen is only 10/3, and I've seen nothing to separate him and Grosjean this season, so might as well take Grosjean at 7/1, although he does start behind Raikkonen. Therefore, I've stuck £2 E/W on Grosjean.

Lotus driver to win @ 7/4 would probably be a safer bet, but meh. Where's the fun in that? :P

One last point on Maldonado - Not 100% sure when Monaco is off the top of my head, think it's 2 weeks time - Stick a few quid E/W on Maldonado for both pole and the win, he's got an incredible record at street circuits in his career. He'll probably be, like, 50/1 or something, maybe a bit longer, but he's really matured this season, he has a quick car, and a reputation for being quick on street tracks. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him do something special there. Keep an eye on the prices on Maldonado in Monaco.

    Great Thread.

    I've gone for:    Perez top 3.    5-1                   £12
                           Senna top 6    14-1                 £8
                           Massa top 10.    9-4               £25

Need one to win to be up.   Porbs better odds elsewhere, but cba shopping around.   Had money in that account and just went for it.   Should be a good race regardless.     I think Mclaren will struggle,   Button not happy with car,  Hamilton obviously fuming.   If they mess up another pitstop there will be hell on !

Sauber looking good.  Williams has great pace this weekend,   hence why i went for Senna.
Hope Alonso wins in front of his home crowd but can't see it happening.
Red Bull not quite at it this weekend either.  Mercedes struggling aswell.   Lotus looking best now, but very short odds !

    Anyone could win tbh.
  • edited May 2012
Sigh at thinking Maldonado would get slaughtered in the race! Gutted now as he was 10/1 last night to win.

Was expecting Grosjean to be quicker than Raikkonen, too.

May have called this one slightly wrong. Oops! Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Maldonado be even better in Monaco. Tempted to stick a few quid on Lotus for the Constructors' title too, as they seem to be the only team that can get 2 cars to the end of the race and get decent points every single race.

Awesome result for Williams! A great Spanish GP for a change.

Had £50 on Pastor EW at 11/1 with Sky Bet. That'll pay for dinner :)

  • edited May 2012
Bump - Remember that as it's Monaco, Practice 1 and 2 are both on THURSDAY instead of Friday.

And a tip, ofc - Sky Bet are offering 33/1 that Michael Schumacher retires on the 1st lap. IMO, this is brilliant value, for the following reasons:

    1) Schumacher has a 5 place grid penalty - This means he cannot be any higher than 6th on the grid (if he's the fastest qualifier). He'll likely be in the middle of the field somewhere. If there's any 1st lap incidents, it's most likely to occur in the midfield, so the chances of him being involved in a first lap accident are fairly high - Definitely better than 33/1 IMO.

    2) Schumacher is under pressure - With Rosberg having scored 41 points and won a race already, compared to Schumacher's 2 points for 10th in Malaysia and 10th in Bahrain, there's a lot of speculation that his contract won't be renewed at the end of the season, and that he'll retire again. This, combined with his grid penalty, and the fact that overtaking is difficult at Monaco even with DRS, may make him more likely to take risks that he wouldn't usually take on the first lap.

I've got a £5 free bet so decided to go for it :P £165 if Schumi doesn't make it to the end of Lap 1.

    Bumpage..

Are you following Silverstone Mr Pingy?

Had Alonso for pole at 9/1 (cashback!) and have him for the win at 5/1 (prices & bets from Thursday).

This weekend's comedy bet is Kovi @ 2500/1 - Bring on the rain! haha

  • edited July 2012
    Forgot about this thread! :o

Yeah, been following Silverstone - Can't predict a winner this season, but I've got about £45 on Lotus for the constructors title @ 9/2, which I put on before I withdrew my Poker roll about 8 weeks ago, so I'm hoping for a Lotus 1-2, lol.

PS: Just caught the end of the GP2 race and the track looks DRY - Not sure if it'll rain between now and the start of the F1 race.
  • edited July 2012
Yeah I saw that race too, did look dry. Could do with a bit of Skid Sauce to mix things up a bit!

Also got Button, Webber & Massa for the win but was hoping for that slippy stuff
