The only place I could fold QQ there is the bubble of a satillite/dym.  Any other time its a call for me

instacall m8 especially cos its pre, but i'd raise more in future, especially when ur UTG, don't want unnecessary stragglers coming along, hitting with anything. i'd want a call but preferably be HU gives you more of an idea where you stand.

I think the raise size pre-flop is fine as long as this is the same bet you're always making. If you're bumping up the raise size just because you're UTG, you're giving away the range of hands that you're playing in this position. Presumably you wouldn't open for 900 into stacks of 5000 unless you're willing to call off the rest, right? You'd never want to bet-fold for this amount and presumably haven't been doing so before now. That is very much going to narrow your range and reduce the chances of decent players shoving on you with hands like KQ or underpairs.

Of course, if we make it 600 and get multiple callers then we'll be in an awkward situation, but it's more likely that players round the back will shove on us with their 17BB stacks...

Anyway, it's a snap call when it comes back to you. Their ranges for shoving with these stacks include underpairs and strong Aces, sometimes KQ, KJ, KT, or QJ type hands. The call is a little more scary but can be pairs from about 88 and above or AJ and better. We're ahead of their ranges.
