Thursday Night Live with Rich, Tikay and Rich!

edited March 2012 in Poker Chat
Plus of course- we'll need YOUR hands to show on TV.

If you're involved in or see anything interesting in the next 24 hours on any table with a TV icon next to it in the lobby.

(i.e. any 8pm main event or mini-event, or any mastercahs table)

jot down the hand i.d. number (found in hand history) and then psot it on here, stating what tournament/table it came from and why you want it shown.

We'll then do the rest!

Remember- we can't show any hands from a non-TV table, so don't go wasting your time with any others!

    Greetings Sky Pokerers!

We’re live again this Thursday night on 865 and in the house will be myself…

...pictured here with Richard Branson, Tikay’s favourite ever person. This picture is soooo gonna tilt him!

Our resident analyst will be Tikay...

Our special guest this evening will be a face familiar to many Sky poker players, it’s Sky Poker Tour Rich aka Richard Prew...

As well as being able to pick his considerable brains on your poker play, Rich is the perfect man to ask any questions about the Sky Poker Tour.

    So- let’s reminisce!

What’s your greatest memory of the Sky Poker Tour?

And, for a bit of fun,

    Let's start a fight!

Let’s get the two of them arguing so send in your contentious questions- ones you think Tikay and Rich are bound to disagree on!

    Some examples-

    Poker is a young person’s game. Agree/disagree?

THE WSOP should always be evolving and tinkering with the format. Agree/disagree?

Who’s the greatest Brit to have ever lived?

    Who’s the greatest sportsman/woman?

What’s the best ever film/TV series?

Richard Branson/Davina McCall (insert celebrity Tikay finds annoying here) is brilliant- discuss.

    You get the drift.

If we like your question and you’ve emailed it in with your telephone number- we might give you a call so you can ask the fellas live on air and give them merry hell!

As ever, the best message contribution read out that night will win free entry to next week’s 12K Sky Sports Bounty Hunter.

    Email: skyopen@bskyb.com

    Tweet: #skypokertv

7pm this Thursday night. See you there!

    My questions for Tikay.

As pot limit Omaha is just a game of pure luck, shouldn't it be banned from all card rooms?

Does he agree that Jedward would make great co presenters on Sky Poker everytime he is an analist?

Wouldn't the world be a better place if steam trains were never invented?

    Question for Rich P...

... lets say you were looking for someone to do all the 'front of house' fluffy things at an SPT whilst you (and others) did hard work behind the scenes.

    Responsibilities would include:
    1) Talking a lot
    2) Drinking Lattes
    3) Talking about poker from years ago
    4) Pretending you were a better player than Thewy

Who at Sky Poker would be best at that?

    Associated question for Tikay...

... is Rich P responsible for the best ever rub-down about you?

Young persons game - Us oldies need our naps

WSOP needs to evolve to keep up with the changes on Sky Poker

    Ekland of course!!!

Roy of the Rovers over 50 and still playing for Melchester Rovers

The Clangers - You have to agree Mr Orford. After all you drop several every show! - 40 years old and still going strong! The Clangers that is!

Divina McCall - Is brilliant because she gives away she's a Knit in her surname. If it was Divina McRaise she'd probably run all over Tikay!

Question for Richard P............. is he over 25?
  • edited March 2012

    Follow up questions :

Richard spends a lot of time at live poker events.
These seem to be going through a bit of boom time at the minute...... does he think this is the case?
If yes, what factors have lead to this?

Also, how does he see the Live MTT scene in the UK will change (if at all) over the next couple of years.

    Cheers for the questions, guys..

    Keep 'em coming please.

ALSO- your greatest Sky Poker Tour memory- serious or comedy.

Please share it with the rest of the class- I'm sure we can have some real fun with this.

I'll start the ball rolling with my sensational victory in the first ever SPT side-event ;-)

and also- Jagerbomb using a casino corridor to er, save himself a long walk to the actual toilets...

    What else? Over to you...

Wtih regards to poker, I made a dinner break once I think....I mean I've also shipped a side event too btu wouldn't wanna be so crass and brag about it for ever.

Non poker wise....well I wouldn't want to incriminate/embarrass the other parties to what we get upto at SPTs.

Question for Richard Prew... Is it possible to teach a blonde Omaha hi lo in a 4 minute crash course?? *

...and did I really have to play it with 1 card on my head? or do you do that to cover all the ugly faces?

Also, if they do have a fall out, they could make up with a scarf discussion *cue @julianthew*

    Hi folks

To tie in with greatest/funniest moments on Sky Poker and a q for the experts....as well as yourself Rich!
    ......
What is the funniest/weirdest coincidence you've come across at the poker table? eg sitting next to long lost twin brother and not recognising him!

It puts me in mind of playing the DTD Forum T on monday. With less than a year playing very enjoyably on Sky, i came across this Tournament a couple of weeks ago, sounded fun though three way multi-tabling was hectic for me with best two positions to count and a nice free entry put up by Sky for the winner. I was told it was a friendly comp with friendly chat. I entered and  it was.
Anyway i decided to play again on monday and was frantically clicking away for a while before getting knocked out of two games with just one lft.
    Suddnly i got a q on chat...."Where u from Prof?"
I put "norris Green for my sins" to be answered "SNAP!"
    Know "scargreen field?" he said........"yep"
    "Know branstree?"........."OMG lol" i spluttered!

It turns out we lived in the same avenue and our house nos were within 20 of each other. He'd lived there since 1972 and ,with a few years off for good behaviour, i'd lived there since 1968. Can you believe that?

The person in q is capt of TeamDYM, 18AND5TIME, no less so you may well know him. He even railed me while playing himself on another table. My 66 going up against JJ and losing for a top 20 place while his 66later  won a big pot and he went on to come 3rd, a cracking result in what turned out be a very close competition and with good friendly banter on the rail too. May i just flag up thanks to the organisers as it is done very well indeed with results and league tables etc.

I would say that i'm feeling like more of the community now and have been commenting on hds( i tend to look at Tikay's comment then say the opposite...just joking T!) as well as taking steps to improve by asking for advice from members whohave been very helpful. It seems like you have a good product here and are always willing to listen and iimprove it ......good stuff and long may it continue. Now about that question?........

Great input so far guys and gals, thankyou.

We're live at 7pm tonight so please post your messages on here and I'll read them out throughout the show!

As well as the usual hand requests and poker questions/banter we're also looking for your memories of the SPT and also any questions I can put to Tikay and Rich that you think will get them disagreeing!
  • edited March 2012

Another SPT question - which curry has been your favourite at an SPT event?
  • edited March 2012

I am out tonight but thought I would contribute to the show thread never the less.

    SPT Memories.....

BAD....bubble in the Blackpool side event. The end.

GOOD.....every SPT I have been to is full of good memories from just meeting old/new friends to the actual poker games themselves. The one small one that stuck out from last year's final at DTD is this one.....

I approached the bar to purchase another shandy *cough* at just after 9pm. At this time of the evening, the Bar area was understandably busy with a mass of people wanting to get served. As I have worked behind a Bar before, I just waited patiently for my turn as I know how hard it is for the staff to try and serve people in order. My head dropped slightly when I had been missed out a couple of times. A chap behind the bar, who had just came out the kitchen area and I thought was actually kitchen staff, approached me and enquired what I would like as he had seen me waiting for a while. So after just saying all I wanted was a pint, he served me while I looked for my wallet to pay. He then announced that it was free as it was 9.25pm and it is a 'house rule' that anyone being served at this precise time, gets a free drink. I obviously thought he was joking so put the money on the bar. He gave it straight back to me and said he was serious. It was then it dawned on me that this bloke was actually Rob Young, joint owner of the club! It was my only run good all week end.

There are loads more memories......but nothing that should be shared :)

Or are you a regular SPT goer and would like to talk about the tour and share a few memories about it with the guys?

Please email your name and tel no. to skyopen@bskyb.com and we'll get you on the show for a 3 or 4 minute chinwag!

You've asked for everyones 'Phone Numbers' several times Mr Orford. Are you just trying to get a few numbers to fill the contacts list on a new phone? Or are you genuinely looking for someone to come on the show to be exciting and informative? If its the second then count me out as I'm neither exciting nor informative.lol. Looking forward to a great show tonight and due to the fact that I've not yet attended an SPT, I'll be looking forward to hearing from Mr Prew for the first time. I'd like to ask him how someone with no writing/presenting experience could get into the world of Poker Magazines and Commentary? I have always wanted to be a writer but hadn't found a subject matter that interested me enough to want to write about it. I love Poker and would appreciate any advice from yourself and your guests on how to get into the business. Best wishes. Shaun the Villa fan in Bham

    Favourite SPT memory

Wow! So many to choose from. I have been to 13 events!

I think my favourite memory (apart from watching many friends go deep and final table- Sian yorkie74 in Notts in 2011 for example) wierdly has to be my most embarrassing memory...

    Edinburgh 2009

Rich Orford, i think you will remember this... I had been tight on my table and people knew i had been to Vegas in 2008 with sky... anyway, i decide to 4 bet jam with Jack Three offsuit.. And i get snap looked-up by ACE 10 preflop. Tikay looked disgusted and asked me if those cards were mine! I shamefully admitted my mis-step, dont forget i had travelled from Folkestone, so surely i wouldnt donk out with junk.... Oh yes i would... Then Everton beat Spurs to make my day even better! Had stick about that J3 ever since, and it is my favourite "fun" hand to play to this day...

SPTs are tremendous fun, I look forward to them as they are usually my only holidays and to mix with all levels of players from all of the sites and different characters is great. Had hours and hours of laughs at the SNG tables with TKP, the squaddies and loads of others.

    Bring on number 14.

Question for Rich Prew, Why do attractive young women (and solack) always win your "tighty" sit and goes? :)

have a good show tonight guys looking forward to it

playing the main event courtesy of rich's kind free entry on last weeks show lets hope i go deep

all the best to all of you

I have two lasting memories from the SPT's,  One losing , One winning

The first was at SPT Glasgow , two years ago..... getting it all in with Aq against Daiboot's A 10 with two cards to come,  we were about 3 or 4 off the money and which ever of us won would be chip leader........  along comes Tikay.  "all Jock has to do is avoid a 10"....  Bang  10 on the turn. out I go ;o)

The second moment was 4 betting Julian Thew, on the Final table of SPT Leeds.  Julian turns over K5  i had aces and doubled up....  Oh I enjoyed that... especially Tikay screaming... "Oh JOCKS GOT ACES" In the back ground

    Most memorable SPT moment?

Meeting and shaking hands with someone from the site and then later overhearing them say "they'd run out of toilet paper in the hotel so had to use their hand".

    Junior hacksaw to the rescue.....
