The End of the Blogs :(

edited April 2012 in Poker Chat
As a few (ok very few) of you know, I have been submitting blogs to Sky for a year or two now.

A surprising amount of thought and effort goes into them. I make attempts to keep them informative (where indicated) and amusing (where possible). I think, in general, they are well received, and that keeps me doing them. Nothing like a bit of massage of the old ego once in a while. I AM sad enough to check the community daily after I post a blog, hoping to see a comment or two (maybe even some positive ones)

So, it came as something of a surprise to get an "inbox" from Sky saying that the rules on blogs are changing. In future ...."Feel free to message one of the team if you do want to post anything and we will then review and post if everything is ok."

Now I'm not stupid enough to think this only applies to me. I'm sure it's the same across the board - possibly even Tikay and Orford. However, I still find it a little insulting that as a middle-aged professional man, hoping to write a bit of entertainment on a poker forum, I now need to ask sir first.

I am careful not to write anything with hidden swearing, or (I believe) anything that would bring the site into disrepute. I have no history of my blogs being taken down or amended. In short, this new rule seems to be a "presumed guilt", and I'll be honest, I can't be bothered with that.

So, I may appear childish or immature, but I'll find a new forum to post my blogs in future. I know only a handful of people will notice, and possibly fewer will care, but sometimes I think you have to make a decision and stick by it.

I am grateful to Sky for giving me Blog Posting priveleges in the past - I'm sure they are not given lightly, and i will continue to read the many excellent blogs on the site - hopefully from one or two new faces.

It`s a shame even though i don`t post on your blogs i have to admit, i have very much enjoyed reading them :(((((

    Really enjoyed your blogs mate.

    I wouldn't take it personally.

In fact I was always surprised that Sky gave such freedom to bloggers and I just assumed that they were given the go ahead before being posted.

I kinda assumed the same.  I'm a member/mod of a (Non-poker) site and blogs are "vetted" there prior to posting.

Certainly I wouldn't take it personally Graham.  Always enjoy reading your blogs and would be a shame if you stopped posting.  Actually, i was dissapointed when this wasn't another of your blogs!

I think it was the wording, to be honest. Also, there is no longer a mechanism to post the blogs. I assume I'd have to inbox someone from Sky. That's all well and good, but I do read through and alter the blogs once i post them, that wouldn't be possible in an inbox.

If it had said something along the lines that all blogs go to blog central, and are posted in a daily update - that would have been fine.

I suspect I'm looking a little foolish here, but maybe it will make me concentrate on my proper writing.

There is nothing stupid or immature about having principals. You should have the right to be treated like a mature, responsible adult! Only those that have abused that right, should need to be treated with more caution!

    Hello Graham,

That is a great shame but it is probably due to the clever subliminal messages that you wove into the text of your blogs.  It was easy to notice that the first letter of each line spelt out swear words.  It took more time to realise that if you read it backwards it sounded as though you were saying that, "Paul is Dead" reprising your influence on the Abbey Road album.

Good luck with your next project with Julian Assange.

See you on the tables matey.

    Rob

Havent always fully agreed with ALL the content, but is well written and concise bud.

Always read them with interest when they go up.

Really wouldnt take a new policy so personally though bud.  I mean its not out of line for an industry to want a blog to go through some screening/HR policy is it?

I never did get that depeche mode prize.................... :p

Your blogs were great Eyeman, thanks very much for putting in all the hard work. I'm another who incorrectly assumed that everything would already have to get past somebody before it was posted.

My blogs were scrutinized before being posted, but it may have been because I'm a nutter?

That's a shame you've decided to stop posting here Graham.

I'd always assumed Blog were vetted before being made live anyway.

I'm sure there's a whole world of liability difference between forum posts and website content.

Never done one but I'm sure I remember from way way waaaaaaaaaaaay back (Sky_Rich days!) being offered the chance and being told they were vetted.

    :(

Why not just start a Diary/blog thread?

    Can say whatever, whenever then!
  • edited April 2012
I do not understand why Blogs should be treated differently to forum posts and not vetted retrospectively. I have always enjoyed your Blogs, Graham, I hope you have second thoughts.

Huge loss for the Sky blogs imo...

In most sites, I know every blog is being read, corrected and then gets posted...

Any thoughts of reconsidering your decision?

Think your being a bit over sensitive - I think it would be foolish of SKY not to do this and as a middle aged professional you should realise this

o and I do enjoy your blogs )

Similarly, I HATE the fact that pictures need to take so long to be approved, I believe we should be trusted until we do something wrong... innocent until proven guilty...

    Hi Machka

A 150,000 strong website of professionals (of which I am a mod) has just been subject to legal action due to content posted in its forums.  The (very expensive) lawyers' advice was to take down the content PDQ, issue a formal apology and ban the perpetrator, because the owners are deemed liable under English law.

    I see.

And does taking down the content, issuing an apology and banning the perpetrator end the liability?

Of course not, but it does increase the chances that your suitor drops their claim, silly.
  • edited April 2012
I can't believe that Machka's suitor made a claim against your notice board? Aaron - keep her on a leash!

Just considering if I need to shut down the TKP forum (or at least put a disclaimer making TRIP5 solely responsible).
