Sky roller - call or fold

edited April 2012 in The Poker Clinic
No concrete reads, bit of a blind spot - if anything oppo like's the bet button post flop

opinions from start to finish

sat'd into this, felt surprisingly very comfortable for a £100 buy in MTT
I check river to induce bluff, the bet is so big it makes me re consider as I have no idea
what oppo overbets with in these spots

call or fold / how about my pre and post play ?

Busted flush draw? Bet flop, turn and river imo, charge 'em to miss draw. I  think a set is going to protect against flush draw and is likely to raise flop and it's a strange line to take if they've flopped a flush. Call and sigh as they turn over KQ hearts!!!

Why no c-bet on the flop, since you had the betting lead? You couldn't count on him to bet it for you, after all, your check looks terrifyingly strong on that board.

It is a pretty strange overbet on the river. That usually means a big hand looking for value. I wouldn't have any problem with you folding here. I'm not saying I think he definitely has you beat but there aren't even that many Aces that you're beating.

Any reason at all why we arent leading flop?

whare we not betting flop here u have top pair and flush draw im betting this 100 per cent of time as played fold

do we equally check our weak and strong hands -
do we equally c-bet our weak and strong hands -

do I check because oppo is bet happy
or do I check because I am not happy about my hand

    mmmm poker

At some point I will post results but very intresting responses so far

I think checking flop is ok if your planning to get to the river cheap (which he cleaarly isnt allowing) Prob reads dependent this hand as i would put him on a hand like KQ KJ KT with king of hearts. Equally with the limp pre he could of hit a set on the turn or river making him make this ridiculous bet as he missed value when you didnt bet flop. I think your losing majority of the time here to make this a fold but really its reads dependent and i am guessing he has been overly aggro from the start meaning your prob calling here

    Bet flop.

    Turn fine.

River weird, you've underepped your hand with flop check but still that looks like value to me with most likely more than 1 pair, so fold for me.

No, just dont check oop as pfr unless you are giving up or have super reads
    - do I check because oppo is bet happy or do I check because I am not happy about my hand
idk, but you should know. I would be pretty happy with my hand on every street

Yep, i bet flop for value, also turn, may check call river but betsizing is very weird but overbetting the river could quite easily be the nuts, enough for me to fold, especially if we have bet flop and turn and he still does it.

As played i probably fold even though your hand is sooo underepped.

    Result

Don't think I can fold to an overbet river when I check, bet - check
Even though most say fold, does that make me correct long term or am I donating chips calling in these spots
as I'll be shown better more often

People are doing this in the roller? The £110 roller? Maybe I'll put my bankroll on Sky after all... lol

It's such a weird overbet. Experience tells me that most of the time this means the nuts or near-nuts. I don't think you'll be ahead that often in the long-run but maybe I'll change my mind if people post more spots like this.
