Quick question: How many buy-ins should I set aside for taking a shot at a higher level once my bankroll permits?

For me it would depend on my roll if i had 1k i would not stake more than 5%(as for taking shots at higher levels), if i had £100 i would happily stake ~10% or take shots at maybe ~20%. But generally its not a great idea once you have a decent roll, to gamble with less than 20bb (or with any roll if the losses would affect you)

DEPENDING ON BUY-IN FOR SATS I GENERALLY TRY TWICE AT THE LOWEST LEVEL. ALSO DEPENDNG ON B/ROLL AND BUY-IN FOR SEMI (DEPENDANT ON BUYIN AMOUNT), I MIGHT BUY-IN FOR THAT ( BUT RARE ) I`M A NIT WITH MY MONEY.

depends how i feel/ playing. if i am playing nl 30 and have a roll of 700 say i will allow myself 3 bins at nl 40. my prob is when i have a few good sessions i think i can move and stay up there. when does taking shots become your playing level????

I think taking shots is pointless if you're a consistent 20/30NL player

I'd only take shots if you're purely playing for enjoyment and if you lose money you wouldn't care, in your situation pod, I'd continue playing 20/30nl until you've beat that level over a long period of time, i.e. at least 3 months! and then move up

This is for cash.  I'm currently trying what I consider to be aggressive bankroll management.  I'm close to having 20 BIs for the next level of cash and my plan is to drop down as soon as I fall a penny below 20 BIs for that level.

if you have 20 BI for level above take a shot, if u fall below 15BI then drop down thats aggressive strat gl

over the last yr to 18mnths i havnt really had a problem with these 2 levels percival, its where i have made my money to be able to play 40/50 (and the odd shot at 100). but getting crushed at 50 is killing me, hence why i do try and take the odd shot now and again so as it isnt such a jump next time i move up.

id keep 40BI for ur current level, and set aside 5 BI for ur shot take, so (50bi) all together (nitty?), and just jump str8 in and 4/5-table the new level, then if u lose the 5BI, drop down, start again...i wouldnt really recommend mixing say 3-tabling nl10 and 2-tabling nl20....but thats just me

im the king of taking shots i tell people u shouldnt play unless u have 20 buy ins so £200 = 10 nl i give good advice but i never do the same im trying to cut down taking shots because u are playing with scared monay and scared money never wins i used to play 50 nl with 200 br is really bad but never again but generally 20 buy is ok i think

When you're taking shots you're scared money, and when you're scared money you can't play your best, therefore in my opinion 1 shot is 1 too many.

The only kind of shot i take, or would take, is to sit down at one level above with the money i would normaly be putting down on the lower level, therefore less blinds

e.g NL20 player sits at NL30 with £20 but each to his own, I'm sure some players have sat down at a lot bigger tables and managed to spin it up
