HUGH TAYLOR TIPS UP 25/1 :) WITH A IN FORM HENDERSON STABLE

edited April 2012 in Betting Chat
Nicky Henderson’s horses all ran badly at Aintree yesterday with the exception of Burton Port, but it was s similar story last year, when the yard struggled on the first two days before landing a treble on Grand National day, highlighting the possible dangers of paying too much attention to a small sample. Moreover, many of yesterday’s flops ran at Cheltenham and their preparation may have been geared towards that meeting, whereas BAI ZHU, who runs in the Topham Chase (3.40), has probably had this contest as his target all season – Henderson was certainly mentioning the race as likely to suit him in early-season stable tours. Bai Zhu’s form figures this season are uninspiring, but he has shaped better than the result on a couple of occasions, often bang there turning for home before fading, suggesting that today’s intermediate trip might suit. He shaped very well for a long way on his return from a break last time in what looks to have been a prep race for this contest, going as well as the eventual winner and runner-up turning for home. Moreover, if he jumps these obstacles as well as he does park fences, he could be just the type to do well round here; his jumping last time was as good a round as you’ll see, fluent almost throughout, and it’s no surprise to anyone who has watched him that his trainer has had this race in mind. The drying ground is in his favour, and he shouldn’t be dismissed as the stable second string – Barry Geraghty confirms in his At The Races blog on this site that he can’t do the weight (Felix De Giles normally rides him anyway), whilst Henderson reported in his stable tour that Bai Zhu had come on a lot for his recent Newbury run.
