Shove pre?

edited April 2012 in The Poker Clinic
4 handed in late stages of a £5.50 MTT. Was 4th of 7.

OK. In the end i think it's a cooler but should I have re-raise shoved pre after the small stack goes all in, in the hope the Chip leader folds, or just re-raised him? Is the pre flop flat call (x2) a leak?

I can't see all the stack sizes in the hand history so it's really hard. But it really depends on the other players and what you want? Are the others really aggressive that they will shove over the top with hands that you're crushing.

Again it depends on stack sizes, but personally at this stage I don't wanna take unnecessary races for big stacks, so I'd probably rejam over the limper if I have anything less than say 20k chips.

100% shove pre, you have 16bbs facing a raise perfect spot to shove.

As played unlucky but shoving pre is the right option and yes flatting out of this stack is big leak unless you have like AA/KK but even then I'd 3bet small to induce.

    Thanks Dude and Lamby

Point taken. I think I got caught between two stools here. I'd be interested to know which of the flat calls was the worst!

    Cheers

calling is only ok here if you're looking for a raise behind to get it in - once that raise comes you always have to shove. Calling is bad
fwiw I'd hardly ever flat AKo on the BTN on a short handed table with your stack

    shove over min raise

if you are flatting intend getting it in postflop about 99.7% of the time
