Addons

edited May 2012 in Poker Chat
Entered a tournament earlier on and didn't realise that it had rebuys and addons. I don't normally play these sorts of tournaments so when it came to the break and I had the option to 'addon' I wasn't sure what to do.

I was above average stack but realised that half the field had chosen to purchase addons so I thought I would do the same to keep up.

How mandatory is it to purchase addons. Should you always? Should you never?

All advice welcome

Cheers

Depends on how much it increses ur chances to win

as a rule i'd say it is +EV but some tourneys its not worth it. id say if it increases ur stack by 10% or better go for it!

depends what the blinds are and how many chips the add on is if its a fast structure and blinds are 1k/2k after break and u get a 6k add on no point really but if blinds are 200/400 and u get 6k add thats worth it extra 13 bb

its worth doing if its going to give you an edge to the mid sized stacks to stay on average or above, if your really short stacked dont bother just try and get a quick double up. Sometimes by the time the break has come and you can add on your only really buying about 3 bb sometimes so its not worth it for that either. If you havnt bought in the entire game then look how many runners are left and what the prize is and then its worth buying in. If you have bought in say 3 times during the game then i wouldnt bother either. But if your chip leader or top 3 then that extra 3 bb or which ever amount it is can help you survive or maybe call the short stacks so can be handy to do the little bit extra or save your self from the bubble.
