    lol yea +1.

More boring and even more pointless than 'it's rigged' threads.

I'm guessing by point number 2. You are meaning, report them to customer care .

There is a massive argument agaisnt this.

80 percent +  of these players who get abusive, are bad players,  they moan about beats because they don't understand vairance, they moan about loose calls because they don't understand pot odds, or set mining  etc.. etc..
Why would i want to get these players chat banned, which would probably lead to them leaving the site ?

Personally i think by getting rid of these players, we are just losing the chance of very easy money.

If you can't take abuse from a random keyboard warrior, who knows nothing about you then i believe this says alot about your character.

Very good point that, esp if people are banned for having a one-off rant, that would pee me off if it was me.

at no point did i say "get them banned" nos 2 was more a case turn chat off blah blah blah, go on mini blah blah blah, give a little back with a smile blah blah blah. dont put words into my mouth again 1267, you know what they say "assumption is the mother of all f ups!!
  • edited May 2012
For the reasons that 1267 posted, there's always going to be a conflict of interests - Do you want to get rid of abusive players, or do you want to keep them around because they're generally easy money?

For that reason, no amount of posting "Let's get rid of naughty people" threads will get anyone to start reporting abusive players, mainly because in some cases, it may not actually be in their best interests to do so.

I never said you did say  "get them banned".  Therefore i never put words in your mouth ...
I'm just saying by "pointing them in the direction of CC .  Alot of this results in chat bans.

OY!!! -- This is oynutters MUM, firstly, oynutter is not in his 50's until July---- and secondly, anyone wondering How old, or young I am had better just wander right OFF!!---- Thirdly, I can only be contacted through oynutter himself, and I am available to sort out any young man that needs some chicken soup and a comfortable place to rest his head, and if, after his chicken soup ect, he still feels abused, I will sort out his adversary swiftly and effectively with the same weapons used against uncomfortable heads!

BEDEMIR:  Quiet, quiet.  Quiet!  There are ways of telling whether
          she is a witch.
CROWD:  Are there?  What are they?
BEDEMIR:  Tell me, what do you do with witches?
      VILLAGER #2:  Burn!
      CROWD:  Burn, burn them up!
BEDEMIR:  And what do you burn apart from witches?
      VILLAGER #1:  More witches!
      VILLAGER #2:  Wood!
BEDEMIR:  So, why do witches burn?
          [pause]
VILLAGER #3:  B--... 'cause they're made of wood...?
      BEDEMIR:  Good!
      CROWD:  Oh yeah, yeah...
BEDEMIR:  So, how do we tell whether she is made of wood?
VILLAGER #1:  Build a bridge out of her.
BEDEMIR:  Aah, but can you not also build bridges out of stone?
      VILLAGER #2:  Oh, yeah.
BEDEMIR:  Does wood sink in water?
      VILLAGER #1:  No, no.
VILLAGER #2:  It floats!  It floats!
VILLAGER #1:  Throw her into the pond!
      CROWD:  The pond!
BEDEMIR:  What also floats in water?
      VILLAGER #1:  Bread!
      VILLAGER #2:  Apples!
      VILLAGER #3:  Very small rocks!
      VILLAGER #1:  Cider!
      VILLAGER #2:  Great gravy!
      VILLAGER #1:  Cherries!
      VILLAGER #2:  Mud!
      VILLAGER #3:  Churches -- churches!
      VILLAGER #2:  Lead -- lead!
      ARTHUR:  A donk.
      CROWD:  Oooh.
      BEDEMIR:  Exactly!  So, logically...,
VILLAGER #1:  If... she.. weighs the same as a donk, she's made of wood.
      BEDEMIR:  And therefore--?
      VILLAGER #1:  A witch!
      CROWD:  A witch!

While 1267 makes some valid points from an individual's EV perspective, we'd like to think that people would report it to CC as it's not in keeping with how we want Sky Poker to be as a site overall. We're about community, being friendly and that requires your support in reporting abusive players.

i think i must be the only one to lol when someone starts abusing me. Seriously i find it hillarious.

I wish people would stop nannying me,, I dont feel offended by proxy, and earlier on I am sure I have upset one or two but please, I am over 18, if i were in a casino I would expect the grown ups at the table to swear a little. Maybe its me and I find this whole debate inane, call me what you want, some of it will be true, but please, I am big and ugly enough to take it without a message to customer care, and in reality have a lot more to think about than someone I have never met, probably never will calling me names.
But if it makes you happy to try to expel people who may offended you or offend you on behalf of someone else by a barbed comment typed from God knows where, crack on. Maybe hes just had a bad day.

Casinos people do swear infact last time i was at the casino i swore loadly upon exit. Not that i had a go at my opponents play, i got him to do what i wanted, i was just swearing that he hit runners for a 90k pot (6x average we where both in top 4 chip stacks and he had me covered by 100 chips)

i left the table went for a smoke but my lift was still in the tourny, said to the guy i wasnt swearing at him but at the deck, he understood. Simple as that, as you say we're all adults

Oopnorth it's not about name calling it's about a respected player on this site being threatened with violence by 2 different people in a way that if you said the same thing in public would lead you to be arrested. There is no place for it on this or any poker site and I'm glad that one of the persons concerned has been banned for life from the site.

Dosnt bother me that much and i actualy enjoy chatting back at them when they do it and end up being a lot smarter than them. They soon realise they are not gonna get anywhere and back down. I dont swear at them i just pull them up on what they are saying and they seem to contradict themselves and i kinda use reverse phycology which really messes with there head, i find it hillarious. But now and again there is a line and some do cross well beyond the boundries and i just cut and paste chat send it to customer care and jobs a good un. Dont let it get to you thats generaly what they want and if you show that it does you have lost and stooped to there level if you end up being abusive back.

I would like to see a statement from sky poker that makes it clear what their policy is on deciding whether or not to chat ban people-------- Do they take into account who started it?--- Is a certain amount of retaliation acceptable?-- Am I allowed to defend my Mums good name?  (Katherine)-----Most abuse seems to start quite gently, and escalate, but when someone tells me what my Mum did last night, when I know for a fact that she was at home making apple and rhubarb crumble, and can no longer manage that particular position anyway, am I allowed to tell them what I think of their summary of my Mums evening?

the amount of players that have slept with my mum well.......... anyways she always tells me that they got a small tod-ger and arnt very good in bed. Infact shes a bit of a man eater and usualy reduces them to tears and they they end up being monks and make a chastity vow for the rest of there poker life.

Can understand where you're coming from here. I'm not bothered if someone says f@*! in the chat box when they get outdrawn. If I was banned for writing "ffs" in the chat box after being outdrawn, it'd be ridiculous.

Saw someone earlier in chat say "Come to Doncaster fight me I'll stab you, you f!~@&%£ c@#%" - Unsurprisingly, this guy was the first person to go out of the Sit 'n' Go ) Even though that wasn't aimed at me, there's still absolutely no need for it on a Poker site.

Although I agree that we shouldn't just report every single person who swears, there's also a point where sometimes, action has to be taken.

    +1 EVIL,

chat/banter is all part of the fun for many playing on-line poker,
    and long may it continue.
but when people start to get abusive towards another player or that players family
then they have quite simply "crossed the line".
these players imo should firstly be reported to cc.,who should then imo give the said player
    a warning,possibly a "yellow card".
if they then persist a second "red" card could follow, leading to either a chat box ban
or site ban, depending on the severity of the abuse.
(i am not sure what/if any system is  currently in-place,
but i feel sure sky must have some rules set aside.)

i,m sure we all have our own views on this subject,as we all should,
but i,m sure that we would almost all agree,
"bad verbal abusive behaviour to any player is just not acceptable".

Theres nothing better during a quiet game than seeing someone losing the plot or two players exchanging a few words.

If it gets to actual threats then yep its going too far and people should report it.  If its a little bit of wind up stuff, maybe the odd swear word or the 'your mother' joke book comes out and you cant handle that then maybe you need to get out a little more.

When someone starts to get like that theyre either Tilting, in which case you should tilt them more, or they are trying to tilt you, in which case if its got to the point of you reporting them then its working and that part of your game needs working on.

Its Poker not Tiddlywinks.  Now pass me that moonshine and a large cigar.

  • edited May 2012
There's a big difference between banter and abuse.

If someone criticises my play, I may enter into a 'discussion' with them about this (and generally I will do this with an aim of tilting them), nothing wrong with that at all and I'll give as good as I take on occaisions.

If someone say's they hope I die of cancer, question my ethnicity or sexual orientation because they like to physically attack certain social groups or act / react with generally threatening behaviour towards me (all of which I've experienced on this site) then i won't hesitate to report them, there is no place for it at a poker table either online or live.  If it was live they'd be booted out of the casino, so they should also be booted out of here.
  • edited May 2012
arghhhhhhh! this was ment to be a "stop posting threads about potty mouths" not a full on discussion about if its acceptable or not!!!!
plz sky put a sticky at the top of general or when you sit down at table like ryan said "chat should be in english and plz refrain from calling anyones mum a xxxxxx, if you do you will be banned!"

i just had 2 tables one where because i called a raise with 10 8 and hit a st8 on the flop against his pk As he started to rant lol. And on my other one a guy was saying how horrible this girl was and she was a bimbo a donk and worse so i jumped in like a night in shining armour, her words not mine and shut him the hell up and it was fun :) he stopped talking in the end as my jousting skills were far superior.
