What do I do here?

edited June 2012 in The Poker Clinic
Villain pretty loose/crazy.

He flats my 5 bet, then get an ace on flop.

Do we just shove here as it's all we can do?

Surely a checks too weak in this spot?

Been getting in these spots alot lately and not sure how best to play them.

Close eyes and shove. If he's a maniac it's no guarantee he's got the A. He could have QJ JT PocketPair. Normally i'd play it safer but with your read i think you have to shove.

I think checking behind is fine, vs this villain I probz wouldn't fold to a turn bet tho.. i'm not sure if you're getting called by worse if you shove

Considering two players have posted a BB, I think you should raise more pre-flop - make it £1-£1.20 - not least because you will likely be percieved to be simply trying to steal the inflated pot and could be 3-bet light as a result. I think you should probably 4-bet more after the 3-bet and a call, to try to get the lot in pre-flop, too.

I like a check on the flop. You're still beating some of his range - JJ, TT, perhaps lower pairs - but alot of his range is going to be an Ace which is now beating us, as is QQ. There's no way a shove is called by worse than KK, so if we shove with KK on this flop, we're bluffing.

^ this and i also misread it as the villain raising you up....my bad. Do what was suggested by the other two and i'll go and learn how to not skim through things!

Open for more pre, 4b size is fine

    Check back flop

Think check back flop and get it all in on the turn regardless of what happens is better than shoving the flop. He probably has the ace but if he doesn't then he's not check calling is he? A check allows him to turn his broadway hands and smaller pairs into an equity bluff on the turn. I think betting the flop here is a classic example of "no worse hand can call"
