Scotty77 Hand Analysis

edited June 2012 in Poker Chat
The reason i am posting this is i have just read a post in which someone thinks Ryan can be guilty of saying too much when he is analysing hands on the show.Everyone is entitled to an opinion and i am sure Ryan will listen to feedback from the viewers.

I enjoy listening to all of the analysts on the show and of course they all have their own unique way of getting their points across.

I think that Ryan is excellent in explaining in simple terms what is happening in a hand and helps a recreational player like myself understand what hands to play and what hands to discard.

I honestly wouldnt want Ryan to change anything about his style as he is my favourite guest out of a good bunch, however it is all about opinions.

Great thread but anyone whos half decent at poker knows that Scotty gives out bad advice on purpose to try and promote bad play.....hes just really good at justifying his bad advice.

thank you.  I do ramble a tad so I see where people are coming from....like I said on the thread CONSTRUCTIVE cricitism is a good thing and being a poker player its something that I'm used to.  there are things I need to work on with my style and I am actively doing things to imrprove.  but yeah again thanks for the kind words!

I can only pray that you're being sarcastic, because that is ludicrous lol.

I hate when I put on a Poker show and the people on the telly talk about poker. That really gets under my skin.

Honestly, some people... You do a fine job Scotty/Ryan. although I really don't think you should be multi-accounting as Spikelad. It's way too obvious when you post something like this...

This game is all about opinions , that will never ever change , and imo scotty is a very very unpredictable player , that in itself makes him a very gd player.

    ps

    I am not spikelad

    or scotty77

    honest ;)

Does a good job in front of the cameras, considering you probably haven't done any camera work before.

Hand Anlaysis is spot on, great for recreational players like me.

    Hi Folks

Lets be honest. we all have our favourites but i think Scotty77 is a very good analyst who teaches me things. As does Stuart Rutter and the others. It may be a matter of finding an analyst whose advice resonates with your thinking.

I watch a lot of the shows but some time ago the chap who is in Dusk til Dawn(poker pro) was on. What he described in bubble play really resonated with me. Its not to say others are bad. Neil Channing was good(even though he correctly, pilloried a play of mine, as were the Boatman brothers. I just hope Spad3 abovewas trying to be funny because what he is saying is just plain silly ..........Mind you,  maybe Anna shouldn't be giving advice out eh?

To be honest, after a nervy beginning just like Jen Mason, i think he's settled down well and given a good, balanced performance. Just my opinion but we're all entitled.

I think his coach should go on the show... Only problem is the "bleep" machine would be in overdrive!

i think scotty77 does a great job, he's ideal for the job.
but it his easy to give advise when you can see the cards
and does read what to say on the autocu

carry on ryan hope to see you at blackpool

scotty77 is the new trevor harris but less concise.
he appears well-meaning so i'm going to give him a chance.
i think he likes twix biscuits more than poker if i'm totally honest.
we all need a release though so fair play to the lad !
if people are really unsure they should pm tikay because he was around at the dawn of the industrial revolution and remembers poker before twix ! (old school) (respect)

    +1

I think the best bet with Dohhhhhhhh is that he is a phone in guest tho. It's very unlikely he will travel to the studio, i believe he has been asked several times if he would like to go on the show by Sky and declined for his own personal reasons.

    For what it's worth...

I think Ryan is a great addition to the Sky Poker team. He's clearly a winning player, with a strong understanding of the game, and there are many recreational players on this site who could learn a lot by listening to his advice (particularly regarding bet/raise sizing).

Just to respond to a couple of specific points: Yes, all the hole cards are displayed, but good analysts (and I include Ryan in this category) don't allow this to influence their commentary. And Ryan has to make it all up as he goes along, as he doesn't have the benefit of autocue. I'm the one who gets paid to read off a screen :-)

    Ha, thanx JPW.

Recently I've contributed a couple of times to an informal online group poker HH discussion in a group chat situation.

Even explaining basic low stakes concepts/thought processes to (online) friends, in a relaxed, environment has proved to be alot harder than I expected. Some things are really tough to explain in a way that people in the group will understand.

It's no doubt 100x harder in front of a camera, where you can't say "oh f it I dunno, move on" mid hand! ;)

865 hand analysis is alot better nowardays. gd job analysts.

Couldn't agree more, consdering Scotty/Ryan is mere poker player like the rest of us, I think he does an astonishingly good job in front of camera and personally find his analysis very inciteful and very useful.

Put me in front of as camera and ask me to talk about poker and even if I had Ryans level of knowledge, I can't imagine even doing a quarter of the job that he does.

I echo the positive sentiments above about Ryan.

When Redmond was first put on the show he exuded a natural confidence, something which Ryan, along with 99% of the rest of us, didn't necessarily have. To be thrown in at the deep end on a five hour live show with no script and a whole lot of ad-libbing is no easy task.

However, Ryan very quickly and clearly worked hard at his onscreen game and now seems perfectly at ease on camera and able to talk at great lengths about a hand. He's a presenter's dream frankly, as you know you can fire a question at him and he'll give you tonnes of good stuff back.

And moving away from his delivery for a second- his actual hand analysis itself is superb.

For me, the number one thing that sets the likes of Ryan apart from other players who come on the show (who may have won every major poker tournament in the world) is that he actually plays on the site like you and I, and so knows exactly what's it like from a Sky Poker player's point of view.

And of course, he's the living proof that you can start small on the site and rise to the top by putting in the hard work, and what's more, he appears on the show a few times a month to tell exactly how you can do the same. And the advice is free-of-charge.

Fair play to him, I say.

I agree with the masses that Ryan has been a great addition to 865. He gives great unput on the hands as to the reasoning behind his decisions and I enjoy it that he is much more honest than some.

He might not be as 'bad' as Luke Schwartz but when someone does sometihng terrible, he points it out and explains why it's so bad rather than just saying 'umm, that's probably not the best play there'.

P.S. Would love to see Dohhh on 865 too but sadly I think the chances of getting him on the show are probably worse than me getting on it lol.

Funny that, he keeps a multi pack in the glove compartment of his car. I had four on the way to SPT Newcastle one time.
