FAO SPLASHIES....Football Bets for the 2012/2013 season

edited April 2013 in The Football Corner
Was shown the odds on league champions for the upcoming football season and was amazed to see Leicester City as the 6/1 favourites for the Championship.

It made me think of last season when Splashies (I agreed) was extolling the virtues of Northampton and I spent a long time proudly declaring how the great big spending Leicester would walk away with the Championship table (Splashies agreed) - instead both teams changed managers, Northampton spent most of the season flirting with relegation and I don't think Leicester even made it into the top six the entire season.

Who do people think are good tips for this season, and out of personal interest how do people think Leicester and Northampton will fare this season? :))

Wouldnt want to back any team at less than 10/1 for the championship, league 1 or 2.
Leicester seem to be doing what Wolves did a few years back signing failed and past it premier league players on big money and underachieving regularly.
will be giving it a few weeks yet before looking at these markets most teams back training in the next week or so and then players will begin to move clubs giving a better picture of how they will fair.

Cant see past the mighty Leeds United @ 8/1 tbh ( lol )

Bates will be gone soon, and we will have new owners from the middle east in charge. Happy days.

Ronaldo has already been in touch, stating that he wants to play for a massive club!

Unfortunatley, we told him to naff off as he played for that `orrible team from tuther side of the pennines!!

Good luck next season, whatever team you support ( not manu obv lolz )

Don't like the man, but with Warnock in charge you might be pushing for the playoffs next season. I'm just hoping that Leicester's owners let Pearson get on with it this season and don't act too hastily (as they did with Sven) if he doesn't have them in the top two straight away. Definitely agree with last point too :)))))

I wouldn't bother putting anything on until early August when a lot more transfer business has been done.

lol epic fail last season wasn't it.

I think i'll wait until August before i do any bets, but I'm super confident about Northampton.

Clive Platt and Akinfenwa upfront surely has to be the most feared front two in the league. We've signed two pacey wingers and the midfield looks immense.

If we can capture Clarke Carlisle at the back then that will be a huge boost. Shane Higgs in goal very safe hands.

    Aidy Boothroyd's barmy army. NTFC!

Im  a huge spurs fan and I'm feeling they will win the league, uefa cup, fa cup and league cup... I promise I'm not bias lol.        I do think Leicester can do very well next season

I agree it's too early to place bets yet because there's a lot of transfers to be made yet. My Yankee at the moment would be Man City/Bolton/Crawley/Fleetwood.

I hope the new owners from the middle east don't have a favourite colour like Cardiffs new owners...... I can see a vision of a new Red(to represent the bright sun) strip with maybe black shorts (to represent oil)and let the protesting begin...

Unless you have deep pockets and are betting on Man City to win the Premiership....news today that Van Persie isn't signing a new contract at Arsenal and is expected to sign at the Etihad this summer will make them even shorter in the market!!

It will be strange to see them down in Div Three but what sort of team are they going to have. Cant see any of their exisitng squad wanting to drop down three tiers to keep playing for them.

Having said that, they should be there and not Division One - why should the rules be ignored because its Rangers...it will give the other Div Three clubs a welcome boost for at least one season in gate receipts cos some matches in that league at the moment attract crowds in the 300-400 range!

Amazing how,  thanks to the Olympics, the football pre-season has almost gone by unnoticed...only a week to go before the start of the League season with first round matches of the League Cup on Tuesday/Wednesday.

I orginally had my Yankee for this season as Man City/Bolton/Crawley/Fleetwood and my quartet has only changed in League One where I think O'Driscoll leaving Crawley to take over at Forest will probably unsettle them. As a Leicester fan I obviously hope they win the Championship but I think Pearson has still got too big a squad and I'm worried he hasn't settled on a starting XI and won't be able to resist tinkering about too much.

My Yankee for this season will be Man City/Bolton/Sheff Utd/Fleetwood.

Good luck to everyone who has a bet....mine can't be any worse than last season's debacle!

    Done mine earlier this evening.

    Prem - Man Utd @ 9/4
    Championship - Cardiff @ 11/1
    League 1 - Sheff Utd @ 11/2
    League 2 - Rotherham @ 100/30
    Conference - Luton @ 5/2

I've also done a quid e/w on some outsiders too:

    Prem - Chelsea @ 9/2
Championship - Birmingham @ 20/1 (far too big imo)
    League 1 - Notts Co @ 14/1
    League 2 - Chesterfield @ 11/1
    Conference - Grimsby @ 9/1

    GOING FOR E.W  TREBLES

    BIRMINGHAM 20/1
    COVENTRY 10/1
    GILLINGHAM 20/1

    MIDDLESBOROUGH 20/1
    POMPEY 40/1
    NORTHAMPTON 22/1
  • edited August 2012

    My acca is...

Liverpool top 4 finish - 15/8. Spurs wont challenge this time, so straight race between Liverpool & Arsenal imo.

Notts Forest @ 11/1 .... Best manager in the football league and now he has some tools to work with @ a big, ambitious club!

Don't really know much about league 1, apart from Donny have no chance with only 12 first team players at the club a week before the season starts! ffs.

Swindon must have a good chance @ 8/1 so will go with them.

league 2. sigh. As above, don't know as much about it as I used to. Splashman banging on about how good N'ton are again. De ja vu. 16/1 a decent price at least.

    L'pool top 4
    Forest champs.
    Swindon Champs.
N'ton Champs. (lol, lost faith already).

    = 5,277/1!

Not put it on yet, but will probably do some kinda doubles n trebles so that Northampton alone don't cost me five thousand two hundred and seventy eight pounds.

Good luck with Man City and Sheff Utd! Interested with your other bet....what made you choose those four teams? If it was because they had a lot of draws last season, you have to bear in mind Villa and Watford have both had managerial changes so things might be different.

A bet I like to do at the start of the season is first goalscorers picking strikers playing for new clubs and in the Premier league alone there are a fair few to choose from and some I've probably omitted.

    Arsenal - PODOLSKI AND GIROU
    Fulham - RODELLEGA
    West Brom - LUKAKU
    QPR - HOILLET AND JONHSON
    Liverpool - BORINI
    Reading - POGREBNYAK
    Man Utd - VAN PERSIE

There are a fair few in the Championship as well, here's just four...

    Cardiff - BELLAMY AND HELGUSSON
    Nottm Forest - COX
    Leicester City - VARDY

Already posted in "punters corner"  but as Splashies said the 2 should be merged into 1 section

Had a £5 acca on the winners of each leaugue ( for a free £5 bet)

    Prem -             Man City
    Championship - Leicester
    Div 1 -             Sheff Utd
    Div 2 -             Northampton

    Pays just over 12 grand

Got Defoe and Hernandez for top scorers - Both outsiders at 50/1 and 80/1

Fortunatly did them all as singles so Gillingham covered all my preseason bets
the treble nearly got exciting at the turn of the year when birmingham woke up and coventry were flying until there financial problems.

Boro started brightly, northampton nearly got involved.

    Portsmouth EPIC FAIL!
