£50 Guaranteed - Set over set

This is the £3.30 £50 Guaranteed tourney, was 15 runners left of 18, so still pretty early. What do you think of how the hand played out. When he almost min 3bet my almost minraise on the flop, I had a horrible feeling he had a bigger set but thought he could also be playing JJ+ like this, or if not JJ+ certainly KK+ and I just couldn't bear to lay down a flopped set on that board.

I know I raised small on the flop and gave him odds to call with draws, but I wanted to extract some value while making the pot big enough to shove most turn cards.

Played the hand fine although you should raise flop more 450+

I think you'd be hard on yourself to even consider that you could have folded this on the flop. His min-3-bet might look alarming but considering his min-3-bet pre-flop it just looks like this is his modus operandi. Probably inexperienced and that doesn't allow us to narrow his range down to anything other than "something". lol

I do need to criticise that flop raise, though. You are giving your opponent better than correct odds to call with a flush draw. So if he calls he's not making a mistake and you have done. If he calls and the diamond hits, what do you do? I think this bet is a big warning sign to a decent (though maybe this guy isn't) player and they'll fold anything you beat apart from those flush draws and 9T.

Maybe they get attached to overpairs, to be fair.

not alot wrong here but + 1 to what others have said raise more on flop as its a wet flop flush draws str8 draws etc i would go minimum 500 but just a cooler ul

My thinking may be wrong, but as I did say above, on the flop I basically wanted to just make the pot big enough for a nice sized shove on the turn, while at the same time doing some pot control.

Most of the time the turn is a blank and I've set myself up for a nice jam, and on the odd occasions when the turn is like Jd, or 8d, I can get away from it without having raised so much on the flop that I'm committed.

Not going to bother to comment on the bet sizing, as while I'd do it differnt thats not the major thing you asked and the answer to that is simple. You are NEVER folding here with a set. If he has a bigger set, thats life, move on to next game.
