    Erm..... yes, I was drunk!

Forgot I'd even posted this and to be fair didn't ask the right question.......

What I should have asked is given the line I had taken, is calling the shove OK, I wasn't expecting to be ahead when I called but felt the 3 bet had comitted me to the pot and I still have 5 outs and a miracle runner runner 89......... Plus sometimes he is making the shove on a flush draw.

Also..... when I 3 bet, I'm obviously not betting my hand, but repping the Q.

When he re-shoves there is 4030 in the pot and it's costing me 1010 to call.  Surely calling is right here?

Hmmmmmmm just done the maths..... if he's holding a Q or a higher pair I'm only 20% so I need 5-1 on my money and only getting 4-1........

If your 3betting to 'rep' the queen, but are commited to the pot that you have to call anyway is quite bad. Better to 3bet with air and be able to fold to the jam...
When you make a large raise or lead into a pot (usually for over 50% of your stack), this has 'appeared' to have committed you to the pot. If you do this with 0% equity in the pot, eg. undercards to the board, then this is called 'chip leveraging'. The intended thought process for villain is, "he has just committed himself to this pot, do i want to play for stacks?!" this gets you a little more fold equity based on the fact villain anticipates you will be getting your whole stack in.
However your intention is always to fold or put no more money in in later streets. This can show a profit over time but is quite a volatile move and is best done on dry boards where opponents will not just put you on a draw and get it in with 2nd pair, or vice versa get it in with there draw and you have to fold.

Doing it when you have equity in the pot and will have to stack off anyway is quite choppy and generally not the best play.

    Hi 'SLY'

Seems a weak hand(3rd pair)  to play  wth 2/3 of your stack. Is your bet on the flop a semi-bluff 'cos it ain't value mate(third pair). So if its a bluff and you continue then even if you tried to push him off with your raise of his bet then you must fold when he goes in surely. You'd save 50% of your eventual outlay and still be in T with a satisfactory stack.

IMHO, its a poor call certainly. As for playing the hand at this stage. Fine, i feel,  but what are you looking for...flush, straight, two pair etc NOT third pair surely? You didn't really have a lot of cards to improve your hand, did you?

PS Never mind, your mate, Bradley won the Tour de France, eh?

Sorry Sly, early stages, try to flop a monster and win a big pot but bluff here?....its going to lose you chips, i feel.

4:1 means you need to win 20% of the time to break even. 4:1 is the same as 80:20. So you need to put in 20 to win 80.
5:1 would mean needing 16.7% as that's 83.3:16.7... Easy mistake to make.

So if you knew that you had 20% in the hand, then the call at this stage would be right. That's if you ignore what a mess you've made of the hand up to this point. lol
