Rail chat options - ideas

edited August 2012 in Poker Chat
Hi everyone

We logged in this morning to read the additional comments about rail chat options and the thread had gone. Apologies for those of you who took time to make suggestions but feel free to post any others you might have. We won't post the long explanation again but basically we want ideas as to what the best options would be.

For what its worth and for those who missed it, having a 'block rail chat' seemed popular.

Thanks
Sky Poker

Briefly - Option to view list of railers and tickbox next to each to put on ignore list.

Sort out chat box so it doesn't skew when you switch back off mini view

The advantage of this feature is that it also benefits what is good about the sky poker rail, in that you are able to view who of your friends, teammates etc are railing you.
Another feature that could be beneficial & added to the displayed list of railers is "Add a friend" I feel that this option should be available whilst seated at the table, rather than having to remember the alias of a player/railer with whom you may want to be friends with.

IMO Only people with enough money in BR is a bit drastic, Blocking player/players would be the best option. But then it should never need to get to this :( but i guess it does.

I know the problem...TommyD made a post and myself and someone else agreed with him so the thread got deleted as they assumed it must have been a wind up!

Sigh.  Posted a comment last night at two in the morning so I guess most people, including Sky_Poker have missed it.  Going to try to recapture it now but rewriting something lost never feels like the first time.  If you caught it the first time this is going to be pretty much the same.

    1)  A blanket block of all observer chat using either Buy in or stake level criteria is like ripping the heart out of site.  One of the main reasons for the popularity and loyalty from players on this site is the community feel.  Look at the teams phenomenon, never seen a thing like that on any other site.  Say a team member makes a UKOPS, VLV or Primo final, no way is it fair that fellow members of the team cannot rail and chat with their charge in that final.

    2)  While in theory the 'block observer chat' button for a player to use sounds good I think it would be a waste of time.  If people are not just turning chat off or going to Miniview when something like this happens they will be clicking that function on and off throughout.  They'll want to see what's being said regardless if it distracts them or not.  Player chat is simply not that riveting and in my opinion the function would not be effective.

    3)  A call moderator function would be great.  Having a human being able to assess the chat and use some common sense as well as making immediate action would be vastly advantagous to a mechanical method.

    4)  Life isn't smooth and some players need to realise this.  The internet and live card rooms are a wash with buffoons.  There is a perfectly good way to report anyone whose chat offends you but hardly anyone gets reported because of general laziness from the offended player.  Now some are complaining and requesting a blanket block?  Completely over the top IMO.  During my time on SkyPoker I have been fortunate enough to play on the final tables of a few big MTTs as well as play a decently high level of cash.  I have been trolled, abused and insulted more than most.  I have also been very lucky to be cheered on, complimented and given all sort of positive comments from a ton of people, spanning from every day regs to players I've never come across before.  The value of the later far outweighs the inconvenience of the former in my opinion.  To tamper with just sucks the lifeblood of this site out and would make us all a lot worse off.  It's quite easy to turn chat off or go into MiniView if someone is distracting you.  If a player is incapable of doing this when the occasional bad apple in the barrel turns up, I strongly suggest they learn to deal with it.

    5)  The stake of a cash game or MTT should have zero bearing on observer chat functionality.

Not as good as my post in the first thread but there's the jist of my opinions on this matter.

    Private cash tables.
If you want to play without distraction could Sky run private tables alongside regular tables.
The Chat on private tables would only be open to participating playera.
The majority would continue to enjoy the social side on regular tables while players who do not enjoy the banter could select to play private tables were distractions are limited to participating players or eliminated completely.

Think if someone is rude/offensive they should be reported and chat banned for a while.  When I'm observing a table I don't usually chat, but don't think a few should be allowed to spoil it for all?

Works in theory the issue is, many people can forget the alias or where it happened after a long session meaning reporting it is hard. Hense why i love tommys idea of the call mod button. Hit a button on the table explain why and bing problem solved.

Observer chat is part of the charm of the site surely?

Have things really got that bad that we need to block it...?

perhaps a feture withen the chat room or even on the player will help you to report more easily and stop anyone bad mouthing or disrespecting others just because there normally a better player lol

bump for the really bad chat from railers last night in the big cash game that was running - hardly a one off occurance either, it happens every time a big game runs

definitely in favour of banning observer chat to keep the idiots out or at the very least have people on hand to be able ban their chat straight away so they don't damage the games

    How about introducing ANONYMOUS tables???

I see this on other sites but not on here.

    GL at the tables

Just let Sky state clearly what is accetable when railling others then examine infringements and ban them from chat and forum for a period of time. Don't penalise the majority for the sake of the minority. Take away this and you will lose an aspect of the community and lose a lot of players IMO. Also its up to us players to report indiscretions so that the integrity of the site is maintained. Its up to us...

Which comp rail? That's bad to hear so report it to SKY and get them to review it. On behalf of players who enjoy poker and the community please come down HARD on these louts. We don't need them here!!! So mate get in touch with customer care and report them today. Its no use complaining if you don't inform people who can ban them. Send an email now!
I report foul mouthed louts and i'm notafraid to say it. Frustration at a bad beat is one thing but constant abuse is out of order.

I agree, its getting annoying with people coming in on the rail and telling the table how you played the other night, it does seem to be a team member of a a player on your table more often than not, bad form in my view.
