Did I play this badly?

edited November 2009 in Hold'em Poker Strategy
Right I know I've been v.unlucky in this hand and this isn't intended to be a bad beat post.

I just want to know if I should accept that I played a small part in my downfall in this hand.

Obviously I've popped my AA up UTG, got 1 caller and then been 3-bet.

I've decided to slow play and flat call the 3-bet (logic behind this was to be trappy and also I thought small chance that the short stacker might shove his stack in over the 3bet once I flat call and then the 3better caught in very awkward position and may shove his stack in and then I get all the money in pre-flop.

As you'll see below the short stacker called off half his stack pre and didn't fold or shove like I wanted!

And heres how the hand developed from there:

Obviously a sick river but did I play too trappy?

Easy in hindsight to see I'd have got paid off by the 3better who had KK so I didn't need to slowplay but I have a feeling that the 55 might not have folded even if I had 4-bet.

Did Gerrard's name and status come into ur decision to play it trappy? I find in those situations its can be on the player ur against rather than the hand itself.  Obv in this case, all the money's going in with AA and KK. Hindsight tells u that u allowed the other pp in but u cant be results orintated here.

Sick river, but you got the money from the KK..

Shame you lost most of it to the river of 55. I do reckon i re-raise pre-flop may of got the short stack of. But he still called both of your all-in with 2 overs on the flop.

I think 4b over a 3b of out UTg raise polarises our range too much, I like a flat pre.
