Been off the fags a week myself.

Take your anger out on the forums!!!

Works for me, although I don't think I will get to 2 weeks.

It hasn't however affected my game one bit. Just finished a run of DYM cashes totalling ten. This is only one short of my previous best.

Try the patches, they take the edge of things, but do not under any circumstances leave them on after 10pm.

The dreams you get are so vivid and amazing, and when they wake you, you cannot go back tosleep afterwards.

Most chemists run a free stop smoking clinic where they will give you the patches, gum or whatever floats your boat, for free.

OMG!!! around 2 years ago my partner was pregnant so i decided to stop smoking and went to the chemist to get some patches, ive never been one for reading the small prints so just slapped the patch on and the hallucinations i was having in my sleep were out of this world, i just put this down to stopping smoking and didn't think it was because i was leaving the patches on! after a week of the hallucinations and not eating and not getting out of bed i decided to read the leaflet that came with the patches, i looked at the side effects and i had every single one of them!!! that was the worst week of my life and i remember thinking to my self i will never have a decent night sleep again because of this!!

Good work on the DYM run!

I tried the patches 2 years ago and found the side effects first hand, when I stopped using them I started smoking again, this time round I have started exercising and have the will power to stay off them (not keeping up with a 9 year old running on the beach gave me that!) My main issue with poker is that I miss the crutch cigarettes gave me as a concentration aid and i just seem to play too many hands and make too many moves now.

ok so i've decided to give up smoking. Since we moved to live at the top of a ruddy great hill i get knacked taking the kids to school every day. Are you telling me the patches are no good, and is willpower the best way to go?
  • edited November 2009
the patches are gruesome in my experience
  • edited November 2009
The patches are very good.  Like someone said tho, take them off before yuou go to bed.  The dreams are that vivid that I sometimes used to keep the patches on overnight and look forward to going to bed as it was like having a second life.

I even persuaded a non smoker friend of mine to do it.  He was impressed.

smoking is pretty crucial for the stress in poker however it can also make things worse in my experience, i quit 4 about a month and it didnt effect my game at all.

i am using an electronic cigarette, that charges up by by plug. It is just pure nicotine and it is like a real cigarette lights up and you breath out smoke, although it's not smoke it's vapor. yes i know it sounds wierd, but i can use it in a pub casino etc as it's not smoke. Your clothes don't smell i even use it while i am teaching people to drive. Great little device really hard to explain it on here type in ecig in google and it's ecigonline you want and all the details are there. Top device for those wishing to cut down or give up and so much cheaper than the cancer sticks too!!

be interested in your thoughts once you have visited the website. Like i said it's a great little tool and it's like the real thing your hands are busy and feels like you are smoking. The nicotine cartridges come in different strengths so you can cut down and eventually give up!

As much as I loved smoking I can honestly say that being out run to the cafe by my 9 yr old son on the beach then not being able to order for gasping for breath gave me a kick in the..... right direction!

Energetic kids, a bloody big hill and will power are a great starting point some good suggestions elsewhere on this thread GL.

I like the sound of those and wish I had known two weeks ago, I believe that at this stage my cravings are purely psychological and not a physical need! I was discussing this with a friend as I think its having something to do with my hands more than the nicotine hit that I need now - he suggested using a power ball which I am going to give a whirl... I cant see it being effective in a live situation tho!

I thought you got all your fags for free Elsa?

Don't the nice men in white coats down the testing labs make you smoke 20 a day?

That, and all the make up you can wear.

Yeah, they're the good bits. It's the rubber gloves and long probes that spoil it.

pure nicotine is supposed to help with Alzheimers. Friend of the family who is a doctor said they are doing trials as people who suffered and smoked were not as bad as people who didn't! ..... crazy world we live in ;)

i tried the nicotine patches an they burnt my lips and the nicotine gum i could never keep lit!! ;)
