edited August 2012 in The Poker Clinic
Lost most of my stack on this one. Did i play it correctly and it was just bad luck or should i have folded?

why did you raise so much preflop especially on the button?
why did you min raise a full pot lead?

I raise smaller pre, probably only to around 500 at this blind level, 600 absolute max. If you raise the flop then I'd just shove, but money/chips are going in regardless.

Personally though, it sounds a bit nitty but I'd lean towards a fold on the flop, because when he full pots with them stacks, it's unlikely you're gonna get a fold and you're very unlikely to ever be a favourite when it goes in.

    2.5 x raise pre so 500
    800 is far to big
on flop if u was deeper stack i would jam but u dnt have any fold equity so i would fold

A good general rule is just as the blinds start getting bigger, some people say 30/60 upwards, some say 50/100 upwards, but around that area, you should not really be raising 3 times the big blind or more and it should generally be no more than 2.5 times the big blind so 500 in this hand, unless you have a good reason otherwise.

It makes it cheaper when you're just blind stealing, it means you can c-bet flops smaller because the pot is smaller, and you can get away from hands without finding yourself committed because you've already put too much in to fold.

Look at this for a sick call. I'm in the freeroll just now and again am i raising too big? I knew he didn't have a 7 or a jack as he hesitated his check after the fold but he called and inevitably the queen came on the river 'sigh'

u get the same job done with a 2.5 x raise then u do with a 4 x raise and if u bet half pot or 3/4 pot gets the same job done as to a pot size bet

Well to be honest, forget the raise sizes, you should be looking for the fold button before you put a single chip in the pot lol. Min-raising (with hands worth playing) is ok, I usually go a little bit bigger, like if it's 50/100 I'll be raising somewhere between 220 - 250.

When someone 3bets (re-raises your first bet preflop) definitely definitely fold.

Once you see the flop, bet smaller, obviously this guy was really bad but most of the time a massive bet is gonna make all the hands that you beat 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 88, 99, TT, raggy Aces fold, and all the ones that are beating you will call. In summary that means, you very rarely ever going to get called and be happy about it.

I think you should probably fold the turn unless you know he's a maniac (which this guy clearly was).

    Sigh river.
