Cooler or can I get away from this with some of my stack in tact?

edited September 2012 in The Poker Clinic
Literally the first hand I played in the 22:00 £22 BH tonight, no real reads, but I know the oppo is a decent player.

Is this just a cooler or should I be worried about the 7 when he calls my flop bet?

I actually put him on a smaller FH, or maybe AA in which case I just sigh, honestly hadn't given much thought to the 7.

Yh I go bigger pre too.

Don't mind the turn if you think he's calling with air a lot otf which will give up to a double barrel.
OBv you can never get away from this. I'm getting it in fist pumping...

I agree you want to be raising it bigger pre-flop. Out of position, you're giving them great odds for the call by making it 100 more to win 290 and then 390. After they've put 60 in the middle, you're never going to be able to isolate one opponent with this raise as neither is ever likely to fold. You're also not getting enough value for your KK and you're going to be playing it out of position. Your raise size also looks alot stronger than if you'd made a more "standard" raise. It's not as though you're ever going to be making it 160 when you're bluffing.

Post-flop, again I agree with grantorino and percival that I'd never be folding. You've got the third nuts on the turn and AA seems an unlikely holding. I think you're going to be up against 88-JJ here alot more often than you're up against the 7.

just for info, the check on the turn was to induce a bet with the intention of barrelling.

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.

    Hi all

Just want to go back to this one, pre flop I bet full pot out of the BB with KK, I really think this might be a hole in my game as so often people say I need to bet bigger.

If full pot isn't enough, what should I be betting and where are you looking for your indicators if not the pot size?

At least 3x the raise you are facing at this stack depth oop imo, prob a bit more, esp with caller

Well you're making the first guy pay 100 to win 300, and the next guy gets to pay 100 to win 400, so you're giving them great odds.

The size of the pot is the appropriate gauge for bets down the streets but not really for raises. You've got to basically size it on the pot-odds that you'll be offering your opponents. The best way to do that is usually to size your raises based upon the size of your opponent's bet or raise, unless it's one of those "comedy" min-leads that seem so common.

As has been said, a 3-bet is usually best made to be around 3x the original raise. In position you can make it a little smaller sometimes, particularly in tournaments. If there have been callers then usually you'd need to make the raise a bit bigger.

I'd be looking to make it about 300 here, I think.
