Flopped Straight. What to bet on turn? (Part 2)

I was tempted to shove the turn since there were 2 players in the pot, and lots of ways I could get beat on the river (if I wasnt already behind, of course).

But I thought that might be a bit too nitty, and force out too many hands that could call and miss.

What is generally the best approach?  Bet smaller and be willing to fold to a nasty river card?  Do exactly what I did?  Or just shove?

I don't think shoving on the turn is too bad with the board and action.

As you say, there's lots of ways they could beat on the river, and they're likely to be drawing, so you can try to charge them the most on the turn when they have a (small) chance to win and they might pay cos they still have a card to come, but if you let them see the river it's likely to go... if they missed their draw, you get nothing, if they hit their draw, you go bust.

I agree that just callin would be bad, for exactly the reasons you mention.  Or at least, that was my thinking at time.

In retrospect, against 2 players, I suppose I could have just assumed that it was so likely that (at least) one of them was drawing to a flush or a better straight, and flatted and been willing to fold to any 4 or any club (let alone the 4 of clubs) r any 8.

I probably would have not have got anybody's stack if there was a blank on river (and I might have lost mine if someone had flopped a better straight), but I still might have got some value off some hands, & someone might have bluffed.

A shove is probably best, like you say.  I was probably (very incorrectly) influenced by the fact that I didnt want both of them to fold.  But I think the problem with my bet is that get the worst of both worlds.  I am committed to a river call, and my opponent can probably see that, so he knows he is getting good implied odds for his £1.70 call.

Yeah, there's a massive argument for folding the river.  It's very unlikely that he expects me to fold, so therefore very unlikely he is bluffing, and that card has brought in a lot of the hands he might have been drawing with.

But dont the pot odds mean that I might as well call?  Every now and again he will turn over 4,2 or A4, or AA, or a set (or, less often, 2 pair).
