I'm guessing he put you on a hand pretty accurately and he has 88-TT. I reckon he checked the flop cos he has showdown value, but can't get called by worse and doesn't want to get raised off the flop.

both had straights and I had redraw to the flush. Well played today mate, gl if you are in any of tonights UKOPS. Part of the key to the hand in the OP is the meta game and how aggro I was playing which has (as you said above) have to be factored into the decision you made.

Not looked at other post but with MB he plays such an aggro game and is such a good player too imo. Probably a lot of what has happened before will have contributed to betting. TBH, i've no idea what you should do. When i played with him in the sunday roller on my lhs he owned mecompletely. Its that metagame thing!!! The check on the flop may have been to tempt you. He has the chips to mess around but i'd have folded on turn instead of calling. Why not raise here and put him to the test? Getting a headache with all this meta stuff!

To take the matter in hand seriously, our hand here is pretty face up by the river IMO (in that we have some weak showdown).  Matt's a perceptive player who is not tight.  What you have to weigh up is his opinion of you and balance how much he would think you'd fold weak showdown here to an airball compared to how much he'd think you'd call off to a made hand.

No point in "taking the hand seriously". Its a brag post, IDCU calls matt bates(a good mtt player as he put it & wins) end of story.
