Life B4 the internet

edited November 2012 in Poker Chat
Do you remember what you done before the internet - circa 1995
What was life like before the internet, did we go out more ?
Imagine, would poker be as popular without the internet.
Would people run to the casinos after 2003 when Chris Moneymaker won and just play one table !

when did you first discover the internet - for me around 2001

It's an amazing thing that we have isn't it

Before the internet I was wild and free

Now i live in the dark and grow mushrooms while spending my days wondering if i should 3 bet a9 suited

Seriously though, yes it is an amazing thing but does it not make us a little more isolated from reality?

Im sceptical whether Moneymaker really had that huge a part to play in the boom. Sure he definitely played some part, but the improved TV coverage with holecards and the the internet becoming faster and more widespread was gonna lead to a boom no matter what. So i doubt people would have went to the casino if there was no internet.

As to what life was like before the internet. Well it was pretty bleak wasnt it? If you didnt know the answer to something you couldnt just look it up online. You actually had to buy music in shops(or tape it off the radio). If you wanted to see a funny cat video your only choice was to stay in on a saturday night and watch You've Been Framed. Dark, dark times.

My first experience of the internet was AOL, Altavista and Lycos and attempting to find p*rn.

I think I discovered it around '94/95 but it had been around a long time by then! It's the World Wide Web that opened things up for us around that time.
I remember saying I see no future in this...... brilliant.

What is scary is how your life becomes so empty and frightening and frustrating and boring and miserable when the internet goes down.
What is really scary is you have to talk to other people, such as the missus, its a thing called conversation for those who have forgotten.

Yes its true the internet is a fantastic concept but we should all try to put some balance into our lives by involving ourselves with other activites....

"HEY YOU IN THAT DARKENED ROOM CLICKING A PIECE OF PLASTIC.........I'M TALKING TO YOU!!! YES YOU!!! OH SORRY SCOTTY, I DIDN'T RECOGNISE YOU"
