Guarantees - today & tomorrow.

Good morning.

As it is Champions League week, which significantly affects Online Poker traffic levels, the Guarantees have been reduced on a couple of Tournaments, as follows;

Tonight & Tomorrow;

The 9pm £55 Bounty Hunter will have it's usual £5,000 Guarantee reduced to £4,000.

Tomorrow;

Wednesday's Doublestack Main Event will have its Guarantee reduced to £5,000, from the usual £6,000.
 
These changes are intended to be for this week only, & all things being equal, it is currently intended to restore them to their normal levels next week.

What's the point in changing  the guarantee all the time?

If sky are scared of overlay they should not put a guarantee on the tourneys  IMO

GTD tournys atttract more recreational players. Changing the amount depending on what traffic they expect makes perfect sense.

Doesn't look like the numbers were affected too bady, does it? The Bounty Hunter where the guarantee was reduced from £5000 to £4000 made very nearly £6000

This one is with my Personal View hat on. I don't influence what the GTD amounts are on any events, so this is just my take on things.

The logic is pretty simple: Sky Poker believed that the Champions League schedule would impact the number of people choosing to play the Main. Therefore it didn't want to give away £2,000 over two nights. To draw an analogy, it would like a pub putting on a buffet for their normal crowd of people even though they suspect they'd only see 80% of them arrive that particular night. Again, that 80% is just an example and not a direct correlation on how Sky Poker might have been thinking about their own business.

Being wasteful with money here could potentially mean it being saved elsewhere - promotions, tv content, freerolls, marketing budget etc. Not ideal either, right? The fact that the prizepool was ~£6,000 means it doesn't matter too much if the GTD was £4000 or £5000. The only difference was Sky Poker was able to reduce liabilities on a day it thought they would be higher.
