i'm also fairly new and i can say that the skypoker community/forum is very helpful and there's always someone willing to offer you advice and/or help with your game. Just post your question on the forum and someone will gladly reply.
Also, there's a section of the forum called "The Poker Clinic", which i find very helpful. definitely worth a look, if you get the chance.

dym's are cheap, good value,and will teach you the game.
tournaments can give you good returns for your money.
cash is where most players start off,i guess,which is ok but can be quite swingy too.
