2 questions

Question 1 : can i do anything different how i play? Im new to table, no history, and my turn bet is a kinda river stopper bet in advance for a free river showdown.  I could have got away then as that board is now horrid for KK

Question 2 : For fun.......what hand does he show?

yes it is phil your kk dont look so good theres a flush draw and a str8 draw  fold em

theres no point in raising turn when hes betting so small. Your basically improving his betsizing for him by raising. The last thing you should be thinking about is putting more money in the pot.

i agree with offshoot flat on turn and his river bet is prob only gonna be £2, erm what was he holding im gonna go for 5 6 because if u call a pot size bet with a gut shot u will hit on the next card,

Played it nicely until the turn where you just want to flat turn and river, if he had the straight or flush he gets hardly any value but when you hit your straight or flush you stack him. Lose small pots and win big ones, this is a chance to lose a small pot. No harm in check calling for pot control. I think he had the straight, but you can afford to pay him off so cheaply.

how can he  phil hit the str8 or flush with kk on that borad blackfish
  • edited November 2009
Im putting him on a 6.

Purely because he's not going mad with his betting and it seems as though he's a little scared by the flushy or higher straight.

I don't think there was anything else you could do after the flop and turn.
The board look horrible for the K's.
I would put him on an Ac and an 8

He had 2,2!!!!!!!!!! So many questions after that hand - why? was the main one!

Anyhow, adjusted accordingly as his play was sooo crazy and a while later the following hand arose. As I now knew what he was like, I knew I could confidently win my money back with the all in river bet.

Again, his play was 'creative' to say the least!!!

Bluff-raise the river in the hand in the OP.

The thing about the first hand is that the villain's bet sizes are, well... a little unorthodox, let's say. Personally, betting 50p into a £4.50 and then calling another £4.50 on top suggests even they're not sure how good their hand is!

The turn kind of backs up the point: £1 into a gazillion is either genius play from someone who puts you on a hand you're happy to stack with and they've got the nizzles, or the bet-call meanderings of someone who hasn't found out that potting it with a decent hand might be the way to go. Horrible to play against, but the simple fact is that board is nasty for your hand. That gives us two options:

    1) Fold. Bluffing a calling station is practically impossible. Wait for a better spot, take them to Valuetown, head to the ATM and collect winnings/

    2) Raise the river. As LadyFingrs suggests, this is an option in normal circumstances. A thinking player might be able to fold hands such as two pair, a set or the idiot straight, but will most likely be calling you with flush draws or top straights.

I don't like the move against this particular villain because he's calling reraises even when it's £4.50 more after flicking 50p into the pot. If the bet sizes were more orthodox and leverage was something that might apply more, then it's a very decent move though. Float the turn, bet big on the river. Here I think it's just burning money though.

Additional note: I personally would have check-called turn and river as suggested. It's a bit of a weak line, but you're pot controlling against someone who doesn't seem to want to win more than £2.50 or so with their good hands....
