Make Sky Poker Free to Air

edited December 2009 in Sky Poker Live
I know it has been written about befor......

Sky poker should be free to air ......... if sky news is free to air .... and sky sports news is free to air .... why not sky poker?????

I know it can be streamed over the web ..... but why would i want to slow my computer down any more when i have a sky box with a free to air card ......... and a nice flat screen in front of me

it cant be about gambling .... if you look at the free to air channels after 10 pm half a rulette bingo black jack etc

it cant be out of skys pokers control ??? surely sky poker is owned and promoted as part of sky

well thats my 2p worth

I totally agree with you andy, Sky Poker should be free to air, it would bring in more players as they would be able learn the basics and follow better players while trying different playing strategies for themselves.

Come on Sky get it sorted.

I must admit I would love to see this happen with the sky poker channel, but it doesnt seem very likely.  If it was going to happen, Id have thought it would have by now.

It is free to air on Sky, It's just not on freeview. Why are Sky News & Sky Sports News free but not this??? Simples, viewing figures and advertising revenue. Do you have any Idea how expensive it would be to Add an entire other channel channel to freeview? I don't know the cost personally but i can imagine that alteration of an entire viewing network is not cheap.

Poker is popular but still specialist. There is no way the viewing figures would increase enough to make it viable because even all those that play here don't bother watching.

You have to remember that this Channel is a bonus offering from the SKY corporation. They are probably more likley to keep it as a SKY offering rather than encourage people to move to freeview and not bother with their main product. The revenue earned from poker for sky is not even a drop in it's massive revenue streams so any option that may increase poker play may be nice but not exactly world changing for the Sky corporation

If ocean finance can get their own channel on freeview I am sure SKY Poker can justify it, surely more people play poker than want to consolodate their loans and buy a new car or have a holiday ;-)

You'd have to consider profits. Do more people play poker than finance things in the UK???? Probably not and if there are then the average spend per customer is significantly lower for poker players (well most i hope lol). And of all the poker players in the UK only a very small percentage will regularly play on SKY. Then you only have a percentage of those playing on sky that actually watch the TV program.

The TV channel is already on a budget that has forced them to reduce from 7 nights live coverage to the couple of tournys a week you now get.

The replies by ACESOVER8s pretty much sums it up.

It's just not as simple an issue as some might think & the Regulatory hurdles are mind-boggingly complex.

    Turn it on it's head.

If it WERE do-able, why do you think Sky Poker have not done it?...........

We'd give our right arm to be on Freeview, & believe me, thery tried very hard to cut the deal, but it was not to be so.
