Tips for the Omaha Challenge

edited January 2013 in Poker Chat
Hi Guys,  This thread is to run along side the February Omaha Challenge thread.  If any one has any tips for new commers to the game of Omaha please post them here.

GreekWay has kindly said that if any one wants to PM him, or post on here, with questions about the game he is happy to answer them

First tip comes from Rancid.

You must use 2 of your hold cards and only 3 from the board

Anyway as I said feel free to post on here if you have any tips

If your delt quad aces fold! :-)

Dont play a hand until 4 handed. People go crazy in Omaha Dyms !!

Or even if you play 0 hands throughout the DYM, still have a 50/50 chance of cashing :)

Balls to that idea. Limp in every hand & try & flop a monster (folding is boring).

make sure that all 4 of your hold cards are connected in some way before you get excited about them

Don't get excited if you get a pair of aces in your hand.  It's not as big as NLH

And be ready to fold them on the flop if you dont hit big and there is some decent action.

omaha is a post flop game ie. someone is always drawing to something
If you have a hand and your not sure what to bet, pot it

The coolest thing you can say in a live Poker game is "I raise the pot".   Far cooler than "I'm all in" ;o)

If you're in a pot and there is a lot of aggresive betting,  if you don't have the Nutz, someone else does

If you don't usually play Omaha make sure you have the 'Show hand descriptions' (your hand strength) option enabled, and pay attention to it.

    In the download;

    Preferences menu />>>>settings>>>>Show hand descriptions>>>>tick the box>>>>apply

Having the nutz on the flop in Omaha means a lot less than it does in Hold'em
  • edited January 2013
As has been said before Omaha is a drawing game.  Alway be aware of the amount of draws you have to the nutz or nearly nutz.  This is a great measure of the strength of your hand

    Bubble of DYM

Never fold my best hand in a month of Sundays in Hold'em.  not 100% but think I was behind so I folded,  went on to cash

    Hi Guys

An example of how "Hold'em" thinking can get you in bother.  Villan 1 thought he had a good starting hand.  But how was he likely to improve it.  another King, unlikely.  a straight.  Possibly  No flush draw.  He was unlucky to get called by Villan 2 pre flop, but just wanted to highlight that thinking this is a good hand is not a goo idea
