was i right to make the raise post flop

i was suprised to see the villian jump right in with a bet post flop after limping in preflop so thought to myself this would be a good chance to build the pot large knowing that i've got top pair good kicker and a flush draw. but i was shocked to see him then fold and it left me wondering was it the right thing to do the reraise or should i have just call?
