Could this have been avoided?

 I have a feeling in the long run I want calls like this, but it stings at the time, any comments please, should I have bet bigger to get rid of the third player?

    All in for 78p????? i'm calling all day with st8 draws and 2 all ins in the pot...it's excellent value... To get opponents off a hand you need a bigger stack..then jam enough to take all your villians chips if he calls... but this is 2p 4p so expect to be called with any pair. The villian was fortunate this time you didn't hit the f/h or flush

    Im struggling to see what we want to avoid here. Apart from maybe pre check shortys stack and bet accordingly.

    thx for the input, I was short stacked so really it was just a pot bet, so i wasn't unhappy at the call, wondered if  for future reference I should have just pushed pre flop.

    Hi perhaps i titled this wrongly, as I feel like I want people to call me in this situation in the long run, just wondered about pre flop action, whether you feel i did the right thing, I did have the option of coming back over the top.
