edited December 2009 in Hold'em Poker Strategy
Bearing in mind this was the first hand I palyed in a regular DYM, this is an easy fold, right?  Just checking...

Not for me. You've hit 2 pair on the flop and I think it's fairly safe to assume he has a queen. I'm re-reaising here to maybe ~550/600. I'm pretty certain you're ahead here.

All in jam mate, he could easily have AQ, pretty unlikely to have he has bigger 2 pair or trips.

I prob would have called here as villain more than likely has Q + good kicker. However, as u have stated, its early in a DYM and u have plenty of time / play left to still cash.

your ahead of most of his range, Qx, diamond diamond, 6-8, basically str8 and flush draws.. i wud not pass for the extra 100. At least see the turn and see how it affects the board texture...

How can I be sure I'm ahead of most of his range when I have no information about him about from the little I have to go on in this hand.  If I'm in his position holding pocket Qs and I've seen me make a really strong raise, I could easily make this min raise to induce a shove.  If I call here I am almost certainly facing another bet on the turn and river.  Aren't I better off folding here and leaving myslef with 91 big blinds?

fold is the last thing you should do here, call 100 into a 560 pot with 2 pair? this is a no brainer imo, 1st hand i would prob call and if it comes a blank card, then your in decent shape, cant just assume the worst and think hes got qq just because he has re raised you, with his flat call of 20 i am thinking hes got kq or aq. i would never have folded for 100 in that situation.

You beat soooo much of his range, re-raise/shove and get it in as quick as u can.

I'm assuming by your attitude that he had a set of queens or a better 2 pair, maybe a queen+FD and hit it.

    am i close? :)

The more I think about this hand, the more I think I should play like Tikay and just doze off at the beginning...

I think there's an argument for both.
Flopping a low bottom 2 pair has cost me plenty times.
If you've been raised, the villain obviously has a strong hand and even if it is only top pair, there's the danger of at least one of your pair being counterfeited or the flush being completed.
Rather than shove, I probably would have called and reassessed after the turn/river.

........there again, DYM's can often be a lottery if you haven't built up a good stack by the time the blinds rise up.
No problems with either play - some you win, some you lose!!

very tough call for me, in the heat of the moment i probably shove but if i sit and think, he has at least AQ or better to be shoving in a DYM, and you've only got the very next best hand right after that.

If i had a big timer bar for a minute i probably fold, but i think heat of the monent majority (inc me) shove
